"Software Update Failed. An error occurred downloading iOS 6."

HI morrowcn I have the same problem before but I restore my iphone 4s backup via iTunes and after restore I update my device agian and now my iPhone updated with IOS 6 .🙂 I hope this will help you out try it .......

The steps mentioned backing up via iTunes and restoring worked for me perfectly.

I was getting An error occurred while downloading iOS6 message constantly. I simply followed the stpes mentioned by sammule before.

1) opened iTunes

2) Backed up my iPAD that failed iOS6 update before

3) Restore to previous backup

when it cma back up it was iOS6/

I attempted to both update and restore through iTunes and was given this message both times.

I have Iphone 4 current software 5.0.1 i tried too many time to update it to ios 6 but at installation time i receive "an error occurred downloading ios 6"

then I tried to update it from my Macbook OSX 10.5.8 and the latest update for the itunes is 10.6.1

and I can't do the update because when I press the word update I am receiving "This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version."

and I tried to press Restore I recieved after buckups " The iPhone "Aziz's Iphone" could not be restorted. The device isn't eligible for the requested build.

please help me I need ios 6 :''(

Are u Jailbroken?Im thinking cause of it being Jailbroken it won't update

Ugh it ***** still can't get it installed ! Was wondering if it just might be because a lot of us are on a Jailbroken iphone ect ... Is yours Jailbroken ?

i updated it to IOS 6 by using the computer MACBOOK.

1- updating the itunes to 10.7

2- make backup in your icloud

3- Press Update on your itunes and it will not successed updating then make restore and you will find ios 6 updated.

4- connect it to iCloud and it will restore your information.

if your computer cannot access the itunes 7 because your softwear is old. please use your friend computer to save time. "it is suggestion only"

You can do this way as it worked for me

- Open iTunes

- Up on the menu go to Help- Check for updates

It will say that the iTunes version is updated and then will ask if you want to update your phon with IOS6

Next > Agree and Continue
