iOS 6 upgrade causing recovery mode

I just tried upgrading my iPhone 4S and put it on regular charge. After downloading and trying to restart, it went into recovery mode and was unable to boot up. It showed the "Connect to itunes" sign. I connected it to my Mac and am trying to recover it.. iOS6 is being downloaded by the new itunes for upgrade.. hoping that I do not lose any data.. and keeping fingers crossed.

Did others have a similar issue?

Its a factory unlocked phone bought in HK and the only problem could have been a full memory possibly..

Happening to me too, happened last iOS update as well. So far, I have DLed the update once (synced and backed up beforehand). It installed fine, I used my phone a little bit, then after I tried to DL an app, it referred me to the free recommended apps. I clicked on "Find My Phone", and as it was DLing, the progress bar just stopped for a long time, so I held the power button to prompt to swipe and turn off my phone. When I turned it back on, the Apple logo was stuck. Tried hard power off twice, no luck until I held power + home for 25 seconds. The connect to iTunes screen came up and I am restoring now...

This happened to me and my iPhone 4. Tried 4 times to recover/restore, but it failed at the last minute.

I brought it to a Genius at the Apple Store here in Melbourne, and they tried to restore it but had the same problem. They then told me the phone would have to be replaced - and charged me $180 for the privilege. The phone is out of warranty, but geez: the update may not be mandatory but it IS strongly encouraged by Apple.

To say that I am not amused is a rather large understatement.

Regardaring iOS6 udpates

iPhone4s:

updated without any issues over wifi

iphone4:

prompted to plug in to iTunes after attempting to update over wifi. After plugging the phone in via USB and attempting restore, it failed with the error, "The iphone [iPhone name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1611)."

After failed hardwired attempt number 4 to restore, and upon reading this article, http://www.wincert.net/tips/mobile/2925-ipad-iphone-could-not-be-restored-an-unk nown-error-occurred-1611, I replugged my usb cable from my expansion card USB port to the back USB ports that came with my machine. This resulted in the same error, although it did get further along in the process than before.

I have tried restoring SEVEN times and each time it fails 15 minutes into it..... I'm not driving 80 miles to the nearest apple care store..... so they can tell me i'm fk'd too and have to buy a new phone.... Apple support has no answers said their swamped with calls..... I'm not buying a new iphone when apple's junk *** IOS6 ruined the phone....

I updated this morning over the air.. I too have been put in recovery mode. My laptop that I sync to is 60 miles away, so I installed itunes in another machine hoping to restore and at least have a working phone until I get home.

I remote desktoped into my home mac, and iTunes there confirmed I last backed up to iCloud last night.

It failed to restore saying "An unknown error occured (-1)". Links to: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
