I just upgraded to IOS 6. Podcasts are no longer in the Music app, but in their seperate, terrible, laggy, featureless (including no ability to create a playlist) app.
Because podcasts aren't in the Music app, I can't add podcasts to playlists, which *****. How are we supposed to make a list of podcasts while using the Nike+ stuff now?
Can I add podcasts to a playlist? Please tell me this isn't as bad as it looks.
I have the same problem. Cannot add a podcast to a Music playlist on the iPhone. And the Podcasts app does not even have a playlist fuction. That is a serious loss of functionality for podcast listeners.
I think that is a pretty crap solution for a number of reasons.
All of your podcasts will get mixed up with your music library, you could call them an audio book but it is still poor.

If you download a new podcast on the phone, you cannot add it to a playlist until you change its media type on itunes...
this is an appalling feature on the new update, and for what purpose? some prat wanting people to use a separate app to listen to podcasts.... WHY???

Looks like it's time to change the applescript that mixes all my podcasts into a nice playlist.
I understand that they are pushing the new Podcasts app, but you should be able to play podcasts if they are in a playlist, since the user has made the choice to add the podcast to the playlist.

What if you delete the Podcast app? I don't have it installed and podcasts show up in the Music app in iOS6.
I had to also unload the Music App from the background to make the hint of removing the Podcast app work.
Removing the Podcasts App doesn't work for me either.
EDIT: After closing the music app from the background, this does work! You even get play speed and 15s skip buttons in the Music App for podcasts. Functionality restored!

Just in case my edit doesn't trigger an email, unloading the Music app from the background after deleting the Podcast app worked for me.
Ah ha! So deleting the Podcast app solves the problem (and killing and restarting the Music app).
gonna go try this now. Removing podcasts from the music app is completely unacceptable, particularly with such a subpar podcast app. I only need a smart playlist so that I can play my unplayed podcasts from oldest to newest, which is, frankly, a commonsense way to listen to podcasts. But zero option for this functionality in the podcast app. Sure, you can listen to individual podcasts from oldest to newest, but ZERO way to sort the unplayed podcasts option.
Plus, it keeps adding back episodes I've deleted and tries to stream them. I really want this functionality turned off!!!!!!!!!!!

Removing the podcast app worked for me. Re-starting the music app didn't seem to work so I just re-booted the iPhone. Then the podcasts showed up in the music app.

I'm sure one day they'll force us into using the Podcasts app for podcasts, but hopefully it'll be better by then, and I'll be able to afford a new audio system for the car to go with it. *sigh*.
I was so incensed that I finally registered a username for these forums. The podcast app currently blows, but hopefully they'll have it figured out before forcing it on everyone. Are you listening Apple?
