Empty SMS after iOS6 update

I have the same issue. I think it's a bug. The problem appears with SMS from the sender with name inside SMS header ( not present in the address book ).

I started to have the exact same problem after updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 6. I lost some important messages due to this bug. I hope it'll be resolved soon.

also reproducible on my 4s. After opening the conversation it doesn't really disappear form the list, it is still visible but at the very bottom of the list. That doesn't help though, just fyi

By the way, I noticed that after you open the message and return to the message index you'll find all the empty messages that you have opened in the bottom of the list. Thought it was worth mentioning.

Same problem here. Seems that texts from commercial services like banks or network carrier do not show up. Normal texts and iMessages seem ok. One opened they go to the bottom of the page, but if you restart your phone they seem to be restored to their original position. BUT they are still showing blank even after restart. iOS bug.

Same problem here - weird how only commercial sms seem to be affected. Unfortunatley also the SMS from my carrier updating me about the delivery of my new iphone 5 !

I wonder if this affects new messages as well or only ones before the update. Any experience? Also has anyone restored from backup to see if things are any different?

I have the issue only with old messages.

Maybe we should notify Apple about this problem if they aren't aware of it already. I just sent them feedback 🙂

Yeah, Same here.Messages from Bank,Carrier go blank when opened,and disappear from the messages list.When messages app is closed from taskbar and relaunched,they are back in the list,but the same thing happens again.There is only ONE exception where one of My Banks SMS seems to show the message and stays in the list.This is erratic behaviour.Hope it is fixed ASAP.

Found the same problem on my iPhone4. I found that this problem only occurs with sms from auto informers with nicknames such as "Qiwi", "SportMaster" etc. which not present in Contacts. SMS from short numbers like "33-33" working properly. And broken dialogs didn't disappeared, they just moved to the end of list.

I had the same issue. The only workaround i have found is:

1- Backup my iPhone with iTunes (to my computer)

2- Follow this post to read my SMS with the help of a utility

Basicly, i backed up my iphone and found a file with the following name inside the backup directory:

This is the file that contains SMS messages. This file is a SQLite 3.x database. It can be viewed with any SQLite database utility. If you want to see the messages, execute the following statement inside SQLite database utility:

select message.rowid, handle.id, message.text from message, handle where message.handle_id=handle.rowid
