iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Same problem with everyone else with my iPhone 4S. Interestingly, when I was travelling abroad and didn't have data on my foreign sim card, my battery was completely fine. So it's definitely not a hardware issue. And something to do with some apps communicating in the background.

I've signed out of my FaceBook now see if it makes a difference, or deleteting the FaceBook app.

I noticed the very same issue, all of a sudden overnight about a week to two weeks ago, the battery would drain like wildfire. Surfing Safari and Flipboard with morning coffee would kill the battery by 10-20 percent in an hour or less. Which never happened before. I recalled that the only app or change was to the new Facebook app update. Deleted the app entirely and wholoa, 100 percent battery retention for hours with no use.

To note, I never had push notifications enabled and always had notifications updates set to "manual" and as for location services, same thing, only turn it on when I use the maps function or the USAA Mobile banking app. I am a privacy buff, so I don't like notification services showing the alerts / banners for prying eyes to see or an app tracking my locations. I do allow badge icons, but thats it, and I only retrieve info when I "manually" open an app.

Consequently the aforementioned action helped to ease my IPhone network / social media addiction.

I've been following this thread since it was one page. I have a 4s with 6.0.1. I was ready to throw this phone away. The first one I got in April had to be exchanged at sprint bcuz it drained 1 percent per min. Got a new one and with fb and ig it would last me 8hrs. After ios6 I was getting 2-3hrs. I found this thread and watched for some resolve to the issue. Most of which if done would leave me with little more than a walkie-talkie as opposed to an IPHONE. so I've just sat back and watched and waited. I've done NOTHING and my phone now works fine. Everytime an app needs an update I do it. So I don't think it's one thing in particular but many things. Everything is on on my phone fb, ig, twitter, email, apps, etc are set to Push with location and wifi always on.

Like every living and breathing entity, I think IPhone's and SMART phones all seem to have a personality of their own!!! Like I said for some reason the FB app, just didn't work or function in the architecture of my IPhone, when they send out another update, maybe I will reinstall.

I had a DROID before this phone, and some said the battery life was awesome, but for me, I would be lucky if it lasted for an hour on Pandora. I brought a charger with me every where I went, it was ridiculous, and I switched to the IPhone and it has been spectacular for me. I was able to dump the BB and the Droid because of it. The only thing I miss was the BB Pin messages for their privacy, but now that everyone seems to have an IPhone, the IMessage function is great. Especially traveling overseas, all you need is Wifi and your good.

My new phone is a definite improvement. I set it up as a new phone rather than restoring from my backup. I have minimal notifications on, Siri and iCloud off and location services on. It still drains quicker than I'd like but I can get the day out of it. It's ridiculous that this is still an issue though. Apple really need to get their finger out.

Try draining to less than 20% and fully charging. The combination of set up as new phone plus drain + fully charge fixed my phone about three months ago, I get 2+ days of power now, never think about it. JD

I'll give it a go JD, thanks. Fully draining my old phone and charging didn't fix it but I didn't try it on a new set up so will see if it gives me a bit extra.

I have disabled Mobile Network on my iPhone. Doing so, I also realized that if you have enabled 3G on your phone, the battery drains faster. I have loaded my phone with games and songs. I charge my phone every 48 hours. And I have stopped taking stress and getting frustrated on the battery drain issue coz every smart phone out there in the market has some or other issue and battery is always one of them. The smarter the phone, the poorer the battery! Even Samsung is not spared! 🙂.

Just adding my 2 cents. I have been playing around with all suggestions in this thread and nothing has helped. Sure, some suggestions improved battery life, but they did not address the root of the problem. The problem for me is simple to track - the 'Usage' timer increases even when the phone is idle.

As I am a member of the developer program, I logged a bug and submitted my diagnostic logging to Apple. If you have a person you trust who is a registered developer, it may be worth contacting them and having them log a bug report on your behalf.

Strangely enough, today is the first day where my phone hasn't needed to be charged at midday in months now. When I check the Usage timer, it is sitting at a normal level as is my battery. Even stranger is that I did not do anything different today.

Another test that I did was to fully charge my phone and put it in airplane mode overnight. It had lost 20% battery 8 hours later. This goes to show that many of the suggestions provided here would have no effect on fixing the issue with my device since iOS6.

I just purchased a brand new iPhone 4S today and am already experiencing the poor battery life. (My wife got one too and these problems also applies to her phone as well)

When I got it home and started it for the first time it was at 50% battery life and noticed it was draining fast, like 1% every other minute.

Looked on here and did all the recommendations such as turning off Wi-Fi, turning down brightness, and turning off all the things suggested. STILL went down to 0% and shut off in less than an hour.

So I charged it up to 100% and turned it back on, did the reset immediately. Now, an hour and a half later, with barely any usage besides scrolling through the settings to make sure I turned everything off that people have said,it's already down over 20%!

That being said, is there any release date planned for the IOS 6.1?

I have 30 days to return the phone if I need to and am already pretty upset. I really want to keep the phone because I know how awesome it is but this stinks big time!

Don't bother with update. I did mine just now and no difference :(

So I am the one who purchased a brand new iPhone 4S after super fast battery drain on my older iPhone 4S and multiple trips to the apple store. As I was leaving the apple store with my brand new iPhone that I had not even set up or put apps on, the phone was draining about 1 percent per minute. They told me to charge fully the phone and drain fully 3 or 4 times. This made no difference. So whenever i was home or in the Car i had my iphone charging.

Suddenly a few days ago I noticed the battery holding the charge - it was at 100 percent after a few hours of shopping. I hadn't done anything differently, hadn't added or deleted apps or made any changes. Very weird but I am not complaining. It still seems to drain quickly when my kids are playing a game on it or I am texting, calling or emailing but at least I don't get a dead battery after 6 hours or less on standby.

Now I am really nervous about getting a new iPad. What will happen if they come out with a newer iPad and operating system? Will it drain my battery the way ios6 has drained my iPhone 4S?

Good luck to everyone else with similar problems and fingers crossed that my iPhone 4S continue to hold a charge longer as it had in the past.

My friends I have a bad news for all...I have the same battery issue on mi iphone 4 iOS 6.0.1 I did a downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and the problem persist...So could please Apple tell us What is happening here since iOS 6.x.x came out????

downgraded isn't supported by Apple. You've hacked/modified or jailbroken your phone to do so.

Apple won't tell you anything.
