iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Yes you are finally correct. iOS 6.1.2 or 6.1.3 itself is not causing these issues. Therefore there will not be a "fix" from Apple. The issue is a corrupt upgrade,bad app,corrupt setting or poor service area. (cell or data). Typically restoring iOS with iTunes and setup as new will solve the issue until you load the offending app back on unless the poor service area is the cause. Sometimes just performing reset all settings will resolve it. So everyone saying that iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.1, 6.1.2 and 6.1.3 still has not fixed my battery issue needs to realize perhaps its not iOS that it the root cause and most likely some other issue. Also realize that iOS 6.1.4 or 6.1.5 or 7 probably wont help either.

Last night I updated my iPhone 4S to a iOS 6.1.3 and now it drains my battery in extremely fast manner. As I started signing in to write this question from my iPhone I already lost 13% of my battery. I never had a problem with a battery and ive been using iphones since the first one. i miss my morning class because of it because my alarm clock didn't because my phone was dead. Please fix it or have no choice but buy Samsung GS4

I can confirm mine is now fine.

Go to settings

Mail, contacts, calendars

Go into iCloud and turn all switches to OFF one by one make sure you save all to iPhone though not just delete

Then go to each other mail account and repeat this procedure again making sure you select keep on iPhone not the delete option

Once they're all turned to off check your calendar to see if everything is missing off it and then you need to do a hard reset by holding the home button and the on/off button until the phone turns itself off.

Once it's come back on go back into settings and mail and turn each switch (or each you want) back to ON.

Then make sure all your apps are closed lock the phone and leave it for 30 mins and then check the battery hopefully if like mine it shouldn't of dropped at all

This worked for me hopefully it will work for others out there

I've done at least 6 "Set Up As New iPhone", at least 4 DFU restores. I've also replaced my handset and am on the third one now.

I've narrowed my problem now down to iCloud. When iCloud is off, my battery life stablilizes. Right now, I'm going through eliminating each iCloud service till I get the offending issue. I;ll report back.

I think I may have just improved the problem on my 4s by going in General -> Network and turning off Use Cellular Data for iTunes, FaceTime, Passbook Updates and Reading List even though I wasn't even using any of those. If any of you try this, let me know if it helped your devices, too.

TONS of people are having battery life problems with every new version of iOS 6. It seems that during the update random programs are left hanging (running forever and ever in the background). This has the effect of draining the battery and making the phone feel hot since it is constantly doing so much unneccesary work in the background.

My problem hit when I updated to iOS 6.1.2. And the solution for me was that my email was constantly checking for new messages.

The problem is that this seems to happen with different apps for different people. SOOOOOOO I have kindly collected the solutions that have worked for people into one place. Enjoy, and let me know if it helps!

I just started a contract with sprint and got the iphone 4s im on my 2nd one in less than 14 days with battery issues i have to go down to them today and get another one becuase it goes down so quickly nothing seems to work did my store just get a bad batch of phones?

You're are getting to the essence. As is the person who sarcastically, but truly recommended deleting all ones' apps. Think about it. It's not rocket surgery. :-) iclouds, location services, push notifications, dropboxes, email, etc. every app that needs or is allowed to communicate with it's mother ship has to use cellular or wifi (or both for some GPS) - which are the major power burners - is going to drain your battery.

Especially when you first launch stuff too, like iCloud or Dropbox. They have to upload or download gazzillions of bytes until they can get to the incremental backup stages.

You want to keep the batt life up - then cut back on all the data going in & out (up/down if you prefer) to those apps which are really useful all day (and spread it out) or those you can turn on when you need them.

It sounds good to have 15 apps that know where you are and are telling all your friends while keeping your email, backup, and such in sync to the second. It's makes for a bunch of power hungry little monsters.

Isn't that kind of the point of having a smart phone? Unless some kid in high school with a smart phone can turn those features off...but what about a person who needs all of those on?

I know this won't help everyone, but I finally fixed my battery drain. I'm on 6.1.3. All of a sudden over a week ago, My battery was draining from full to 20% in about 6 hours. I checked every app, turned of all mail completely, turned off mail and nothing worked.

Finally yesterday I noticed that the phone was switching back and forth between wifi and 3g at home. It was alternating about every 10 seconds.

Even though two computers, another iphone, and an android tablet had zero issues like this, by chance I rebooted my router anyway. My problem was solved. I guess constant reconnecting was eating battery power, but no other device in the house was doing it.

I have no idea why only my one phone was doing this and resetting network connections on the phone, forgetting and re-entering the wifi password, etc didn't help at all. It makes no sense to me.

I've now been almost 24 hours and I'm still at 92%

I just figured I'd put it out their for people to watch the 3G/Wifi icons and see if its alternating back and forth.

TURN OFF YOUR IPHONE PUT IT IN THE BIN AND BUY A SAMSUNG PHONE.. no battery issues now.

Had no other choice, need a phone that last more then 4 hours for work.

Interesting point. I have a personal Galaxy s3 and manage a fleet of 4s', also have experience with HTC, ZTE and other smartphones . The Samsung has a similar battery life to the iPhone 4s when you turn all of the features on on both. The one thing that's most annoying about the iPhone is that taking a picture causes the battery to go from 40% to flat within a few seconds. We suspect iCloud syncing or maybe Dropbox so we have a trial running with syncing turned off.
