iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

When you perform a rest for settings, the phone comes back clean without WiFi and cellular settings. At this time, the personal hot spot is clear as well. The moment you enter the seeting for WiFi password and/or cellular settings and reboot, the hot spot list view starts spinning for ever and you can't get to the configuration either. I noticed that if I don't enable WiFi or cellular, the battery life and heating are not big deals and almost normal to those experience with IOS5, maybe it has to do with the endless spinning of the personal hot spot thus draining battery and causing overheating. I noticed that overheating increases immediately as well when plugging in the charge.

Definitely IOS6 bugs! Never thad all these issues with the previous version at all.

I noticed a slight improvement regarding overheating by performing the following:

1. Reset all settings (first option in Reset Menu).

2. Upon reboot, entered Cellular (APN, MMS, etc.) settings.

3. Connected to a wireless network and entered WiFi password.

4. Rebooted the phone.

The personal hot spot is not spinning for ever as it used to be before. The phone was put in the charger during the above. Will test it for battery life.

Great Post

I downloaded the same app and have found the same thing that if I disable the ICloud account it stops the battery drain. I then started tuning each service for the ICloud account back on one by one and found my problem was with the Contacts. So for now I have turned everything on the phone back on including location services but leveeing the ICloud contacts off and the battery is holding steady working like it used to with iOS5.

Just wish I did not have to spend half my Sunday doing what Apple should have done before they launched this, very disappointed.

Ur welcome,my kind and not sarcastic fellow.

I bet that when iOS 7 comes out you'll be as fearful as I was with iOS6 and will (or should) wait for threads like this to show up before updating, at least judging by my experiences with iOS updates 🙂

And another thing I just remembered to you all facing problems, might be helpful:

I talked with apple on the phone few weeks ago, got hooked up with advanced support. It turned out my home wi-fi configuration was causing problems.

I got an energy problem, and my lights went down for few seconds, so my modem and router turned off and back on, of course. With that, something changed and my battery started to deplete really fast

Going in airplane mode for few seconds (don't know why, ask apple), reseting network config on the iphone and turning my modem and router off/on solved the incredibly fast battery drain I was having. I'm still under official specs though

decided to check out discussions b4 updating and now so glad have not. will wait till bugs all fixed. but i think we should not have to work our way around this problem. we bought the phones to have the "bells and whistles". defeats the purpose of a smart phone if the smart apps are turned off. Come on Apple, fix this, does it have to come out in the papers before someone admits there's a problem.

I have done the upgrade OTA. Last night i went to bed with 38% charge left on my phone. When I got up this morning I over slept coz my phone was out of juice and shut off. After searching whole day on the Internet, I have restored my phone using iTunes and set it up as new phone. And so far I have noticed the battery life has been improved. Gonna see how it is over night.

After 3 days of anguish, my phone appears to be settling in to its own routine, and the battery life is improving every day. I did most of the things people suggested - some I didn't have a clue how to do - and they didn't seem to work, so I've just left it alone for 24 hours. Drained it 3 times from 100% to 0%, and recharged to full while in airplane mode so nothing disturbed it. Yesterday the battery lasted 10 hours with a little bit of use, and today so far after 6 hours with using phone, Viber (call for 10 mins), email and messaging, Words and a few more things, its down to 72%, which is great compared to the weekend when it was flat in 2 hours!

Someone else earlier mentioned the same thing - it probably needs to work out its own settings going back and forth between apps and sorting them out.

I did also find in the Diagnostics that one of my email programs (work one which is highly protected) was crashing and there were hundreds of attempts by the program to re-connect. I disabled this email account as the IT department need to re-load the app which is normal protocol. This I think also helped.
