iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

OK, four hours in since clean restore on 4S fromiTunes. Excellent battery life so far. Here's what I did:

1. DId a clean restore and set up as new phone. Confirmed Wifi network connection. Added my work e-mail through Exchange and Yahoo mail. Also added about 900 songs and 10 podcasts (all via cable and not Wifi). Charged to 100%. Sent a couple of e-mails to and from to confirm e-mail works. DID NOT add any Apps (as I suspect this is where the problem is).

2. From Hour 0 to Hour 2, iPhone in stand by mode most of time. Other than a couple of checks of lock screen to see battery level, no use. Battery at 100%.

3. Hour 2 to 3. Took a photo and sent by e-mail. Battery at 99%.

4. Hour 3-3.5. Set up Bluetooth connection to car, played one song at 80% volume on iPhone internal speaker. Battery at 98%.

5. Hour 3.5. Added NY Times and Boston.com Apps via cable to Itunes (not Wifi). Read one story in each. Charged battery back to 100%. Back of phone a tiny bit warm from what feels like ordinary use of processor. Shut both apps and locked screened phone.

6. Hour 3.75. Phone on standy by for last 15 minutes. Back of case is cold. Battery at 100%. Will continue to add back apps one or two at a time.

Working Hypothesis: One or more of my Apps has a compatibility issue with iOS6, It keeps crashing and restarting, keeping processor going until battery drained. Will avoid testing Facebook (several posters have pointed to this as potential culprit) until I have reloaded and confirmed that all of my "every day" apps are working.

You're are getting to the essence. As is the person who sarcastically, but truly recommended deleting all ones' apps. Think about it. It's not rocket surgery. :-) iclouds, location services, push notifications, dropboxes, email, etc. every app that needs or is allowed to communicate with it's mother ship has to use cellular or wifi (or both for some GPS) - which are the major power burners - is going to drain your battery.

Especially when you first launch stuff too, like iCloud or Dropbox. They have to upload or download gazzillions of bytes until they can get to the incremental backup stages.

You want to keep the batt life up - then cut back on all the data going in & out (up/down if you prefer) to those apps which are really useful all day (and spread it out) or those you can turn on when you need them.

It sounds good to have 15 apps that know where you are and are telling all your friends while keeping your email, backup, and such in sync to the second. It's makes for a bunch of power hungry little monsters.

I think the biggest problem with this whole mess is that it's not a single issue so no single fix. For some it's mail, for others it's exchange, and others something else entirely.

Like I said before in another post mine is perfect now after downgrading the firmware on my netgear router.

I can't say why this worked because my wife's iphone which is the exact same model and with the same 6.1.3 software and settings was fine. Mine however kept switching between wifi and 3G every 10 seconds or less. When I was home all day, the battery would drain from 100% to 20% in less than a day.

Now mine, just like my wife's can go an entire day and evening on standby and stay above 90%. With a couple of calls and 20 minutes of app or web use It still stays above 80% after a whole day.
