iPad fails to connect to WiFi after OTA update to iOS 6

Yep, all posted "solutions" were voodoo. It was actually a problem with the web page the devices ping to make sure the wifi is working.

I found an easy fix that worked for alot of people. In Settings go to General then scoll to the bottom and select Reset. A list of Resets will be shown. Select Reset Network Settings. Your phone will restart and then just go into settings and turn on WiFi and select your Router. That should work.

If you have a new iOS 6 install, you may have experienced a temporary WiFi outage this evening. The problem seems to have stemmed from an unavailable Apple webpage. According to Steve Streza, iOS 6 pings a test URL.

When the web page at that URL went down, so did WiFi access. This URL is meant to allow captive portal network detection at venues like hotels. The problem seems to have been resolved on Apple's end, and WiFi access is, as far as we know, restored for iOS 6 users. If the problem persists, you may have to toggle Wi-Fi off/on on your iOS device.

Update: TUAW Reader dmatos points out that this page seems to have been used in previous versions of iOS as well.

just update router firmware wifi should work then

I've had a problem similar to many of the postings.

I had a well-functioning 4S, updated it to iOS 6. After that, when I tried to connect to my home Wifi, which this phone had connected to without problem for almost a year, I got 'Unable to join network "DirtyFork"'. However the phone would connect to my AT&T hotspot and worked well through it. This is still the case.

This behavior tells me that there's no issue of some web site being up or down. It's up or down the same through either wifi network, but one works and the other doesn't.

I tried the rebooting the phone and router trick, but no dice.

There's no option available to Forget the network or otherwise adjust it.

I tried the Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings and it made no difference.

From where I stand there's still a bug here that's not been fixed.

Then you're having a different problem than what the rest of us were having yesterday. If you're still having a problem, start a new thread describing your particular symptoms. If you aren't seeing the 404 error from Apple.com, then it's a different problem.

Hi All. Can I jump in with a similar but varied problem. We have updated our ipad 2 to IOs 6. Initially we had to re-enter our home wireless network details to get it connected again and it worked from then on. I also use it in my work office - a different network. It automatically connected to this without having to do anything different.

I use it with a third wireless network or router with nothing else connected to this network. It is a router connected direct to a digital sound mixing desk and I use the IPAD to remote control the desk. This network is not connected to an internet connection because it dousn't need to be and I don't want it to be - it is purely for the purpose mentioned only. The machine will not connect to this network - a Netgear Router - as soon as you try and connect it attempts to and opens a page claiming the network hasn't a vaild internet connection and gives options to look for one. Quite simply there isnt one and I dont want one. It then kicks straight off this connection and looks for alternative with internet connections.

It seems to me the new OS doesnt like a wireless network which isn't connected to the internet. With the old OS it has worked fine on all networks for the purposes intended, with or without internet. What the **** have they done, or do I need to change a setting somewhere? HELP!!!!

I had the no wifi issue with my iPad 3 and I did everything I possibly could. Everything went fine with my iPhone 4 so it left me scratching my head. Prior to contacting Apple support, I deleted network settings, rebooted my router, turned off my access list, un-password protected my network and still no wifi access. My router had the latest firmware and I had no issues prior to the iOS 6 update. I contacted apple support and went through all of the steps they required, even a fresh install of iOS 6, still nothing. They were going to send me a new iPad but I opted to go to the local Apple store for additional support. When at the store they could not connect to the wifi initially and performed another install of iOS 6 and we were able to get wifi, did I ever feel like an idiot! Problem solved, right??? Not at all... I came back home happy to explore the new features do iOS 6 but I could still not connect to my home network. Same error as before. Again, I performed all of the checks I had done before only to come to no resolve. I went to a local Starbucks and could to the wifi, no problem. This only left me to believe that the update had rendered my previously working router useless. I purchased a new router and everything is back to normal. Long story short... You might have to buy a new router.

Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings. Make sure you have your network password ready. This fix worked perfectly for me.

I have had similar issues on my mother-in-laws iPad3 that was OTA updated to iOS6 without my prior knowledge.

I've tried allot of the things shown in this thread and none of them work. I'm using an older D-Link Router and I think it's having a hard time dealing with this new network communitcation bit that apple started using in iOS6 mentioned in a response above. This feature needs to have a switch to turn it off if it's going to cause this many problems as I do not wish to buy a new router to fix one of the "New" 200 features that Apple has bestowed on us this time. Oh, and it needs to off by default. The iPad works on other routers just fine, but not the home router my mother-in-law uses at her home on a daily basis for the last 3 months with her new iPad3 running iOS 5.1.1 before the ATO update. Looking for a spare wireless router switch for a cross check. :-)

I had 2 iOS devices with my home WiFi which were not connecting since the latest iOS6 update, I tried all the resettings, restarts and also manual settings in the DNS. While using manual seettings it connects with one devoce but the other one fails including my windows operating laptop. ...

Finally I selected 'forget this network' in all of my devices including laptop. Turned them all off. Also turned the router/modem off. Waited 10 seconds and turned on the modem first, then the laptop. Laptop searched the network and then joined it after providing the password (WPA Key). Once the internet is activated in it,I turned on the Ipad and searched for WiFi in it. Then provided theWPA key when asked,.. Alaas.. it worked. Then I turned on my iPhone. Did the same.. Good God, it worked on it as well.. Now all my devices are working as normal..
