I noticed that when switching the sound button off/on, I didn't get a bell symbol with a volume bar when switching on again. Reasoning that this had something to do with a software toggle, I proceeded as follows:

* I switched the button to sound "off" position.

* Shut down the phone

* Switched it back on.

After it had come on completely I flicked the sound button to the "on" position and then the bell symbol with a sound bar appeared again. I could also veryify that all audible alarms/beeps/notifications/whatnot worked again.

Well... until next time at least....

For what it's worth (Apple listening???) I also have sound problems. Suddenly, my iPads lose all sound. I have an iPad 2 and an iPad 3. I updated each to iOS 6, and the problem started. Someone suggested that the update maybe didn't go right and I re-wrote each iPad by recovering it. That didn't help. I know that (so far) turning the iPad off then on again fixes the problem. This isn't an acceptable work around because I never know when the problem will occur, so that, for the time being, my iPad is useless to me as (a nightstand) alarm clock (running the Nightstand app). The same iPad under iOS 5 was rock-solid and I got really used to having this feature work. Now it's broke. An additional for what it's worth: I also upgraded an iPhone 4S to iOS 6, and my new iPhone 5 has (of course) iOS 6 on it. So far, the phones haven't lost sound yet.

Anyone experienced audio loss after getting interrupted by a voice call?

Was playing Angry Birds one day and was interrupted by a voice call. After taking that call and going back to the game, audio was gone. Restored the audio for Angry birds by forcing closing and restarting the app. This happens to all apps that have got sound in it, except for the default Video app. The video app resumes fine after a voice call. Sound still present

Using iphone 5 here

I've got the same issue as Chris on a iPad 3. I use the same apps and the thing was perfect under iOS 5. Now I just had a user bring me her iPhone that she upgraded to iOS 6 this morning trying to FIX a diferent sound bug where she couldn't hear her music. After much screwing around, I did find that it thought it was on a dock connector and so I inserted a new dock connector a couple times, was able to play her music once the volume bar came back but it won't stay on that if it goes to screen lock, it reverts back to dock connector. I cleaned out the dock port and noticed that if I use headphones it also temp changes so it appears that the issue is only related to recognizing the the built in speakers.
