To everyone with IOS6 Sound related issues & Others

If you are facing a problem of not having any system sounds, notification sounds, no calls or other software sound related issues I'd suggest you read below it's a stupidly simple fix and it should solve most software issues after an immediate iOS6 update:

After updating unplug the phone from your computer and leave the phone alone for 5-10 minutes, if you still have problems: reboot, wait a few minutes and all sound related problems should be fixed.

When I updated to iOS 6 I had lost my system sounds, so I unplugged from the computer, rebooted the phone and still no go. I decided to just let the system "settle in" for a bit, let it lock and when I unlocked after 5-10 minutes sounds were back and everythings up and running again.

I still have Sound Issues only when the battery dies or switches off.. Its kind of weird I have ZERO Idea whats causing it at the moment I do know that when i get the sound issue when i try turning the volume up it doesnt work I just get a Ringer Icon with no slider indicator that moves up or down below the visual speaker.

Again when this happens i lose all sound except phone calls. The Only fix for me is to put it into sleep mode by depressing the power button waiting about 2 mins then turning it on and i get sounds again.

Definately a software issue not hardware.

REAL PROBLEM: Software bug made it to production. The side buttons DO NOT work when you are in your sound screen. So what has happened is that the sound is all the way down after the upgrade, that is why you think the sounds don't work.

I'm amazed that this made it through apple's QA!!! Total amateurish. Who is doing their testing anyways?

REAL SOLUTION - ER... WORKAROUND: as Liquadia said, go to a voicemail. the volume buttons work there. The voicemail volume and the text volume are linked, as are a bunch of other sounds. Listen to a voicemail and increase the volume. Then go back to sounds and click on your text tone and it will sound.

If you find other sounds don't work, find out which sounds are linked to the one you want, and go there and see if the volume buttons work.

TO REPRODUCE THIS BUG: listen to a voicemail and turn the volume all the way down. Go to Sounds and click on a text tone. You will not be able to hear any sound at all for any text tone. Go back to your voicemail (or any other linked sound app, whatever those may be, voicemail is one for sure), listen to a voicemail and increase your volume. Go back to sounds and you will hear text tones again.

I miss Steve Jobs!

My sound buttons don't work anywhere. Home screen, music, anything that requires sounds does not work. Keyboard clicks, text tones, email alerts, Facebook/twitter. I've tried the whole voicemail option and that doesn't work for me. I have no sounds typing this right now. It's been 45 minutes. All I did was power my phone down (or restart it since when I power it down it comes right back on, it doesn't stay off) and guess what when it came back on I had nothing. Again. The only "temporary solve" for me is to let the phone sit and the sounds will just come back on their own. At least until I lose them again. I should not have to go into my voicemail to fix my sounds every time they go out. This is a bug that needs to be fixed. People need to call apple and notify them. Because speaking with them, they don't even know this is an issue!

Got a major issue!! I got the sounds working again after doing a restore and then unlocking it and letting it lock itself. That worked for a few days just fine (facebook still didnt have sounds, but SMS worked fine). Today I noticed that my battery was dying extremely fast, and every app I went into kept closing after only seconds. I restarted my device and lost the sound again (even though I have restarted it before without problems) and the app crashing still happened. So I restored it again on iTunes (restore number 3 in a week). It kept popping up saying different errors such as: cannot locate pair records, unable to connect to device, not enuogh memory on device to restore, and several others. It also wouldnt activate, and often itues failed to even recognize it. I ended up restoring it another 4 times in a row just to get it to work (about 7, or 8 restores within a week). I had to restore from a week earlier and lost a weeks worth of information and stuff on my phone. After restoring I still had sound issues and had to let it lock itself to fix it. Sound for SMS is working so far. Not happy at all with the problems I've had since updating!!! Lost valuable data that I cant get back!

I'll be going into apple on Tuesday. My sounds go in and out on my iPhone since the iOS 6 update. If I turn my phone off (which it doesn't stay off it powers itself back on), charge it, or switch it from vibrate I lose the notification sounds, keyboard clicks for anywhere up to an hour at a time. What's strange is my husband has an iPhone 4S as well (his is white) and he has NONE of these problems. I updated his phone the exact same way as mine.

Since updating to iOS 6 Sept 19th I have had continuous problems with no sound. If I turned the phone off (which it didn't stay off, it would automatically power itself back on in seconds), put it on the charger, or sometimes doing nothing I'd lose my notification sounds for up to an hour at a time. No text tones, alert tones, keyboard clicks, ect. Restored it. Did a master reset. I did everything. Even tried the "dock" thing. Nothing worked.

So, I went into an apple store yesterday. Initially they considered it a "software" issue and tried to do a "clean restore". Brought the phone back to me and guess what. No sound. The up/down volume buttons on the side of the phone didn't work they only displayed the little bell (no volume bar). At this point he said that it was a "speaker" issue. So the first option for this was to swap out the phone under warranty. I have my replacement iPhone 4s and it works perfectly fine. It shuts off, sound works with no problems.

I advise anyone with this problem take their phone into apple or send it in to get fixed. I don't know why, or what happened to my device but it happened AFTER I updated to iOS 6. Apple of course said that they were having these speaker problems before iOS 6 update rolled out but I stand firm---my phone was fine before the update.

Hope this helps some of you.

I still have this issue and its more frequent than ever. And when its most predictiable is when i restart the phone there will always be the issue of no sound, which tells me its some bug with the software, otherwise is wouldnt come back at all at some point, Otherwise i would'nt hear sound when i go into setting and adjust the ring volume.

This is crazy! big mistake to update to ios6. The best troubleshooting would be if i can just roll back the ios to 5.1.1 that would be the ultimate test, but of course apple doesnt let you do that.that would be simple! apple thought they had a foolproof ios, but they are now seeing that is not the case
