Apple maps very disappointing

And importantly, almost as good is nowhere near the truth. Apple Maps often can not find addresses, it takes you to wrong locations regularly, that is not almost as good. If you believe a Hyuyndai is almost as good as a Porsche, then perhaps Apple Maps is almost as good as Google Maps..........

Google Maps on my Galaxy Note had no problems in finding the address in the same way you typed it.

Oh don't credit yourself with striking a nerve - Apple did this and is why I am staying here.

I do however enjoy seeing you squirm and retract.

There has been a notable change in the attitude of those that back when ios6 first came out would tell posters to go away and that there was nothing wrong.

Making claims that google isn't perfect and wording it such that the 7 year advantage over apple needs to be taken into consideration - much like you did - ha

its this forum, its threads like this and it's calls to jouralists and interested parties that have lead to heads rolling - sadly for us users this still hasn't facilitated the return to iOS 5 and the ability to repatriate google maps. There is still time and one way or another people will be happier going forward.

This episode however will live on in apple history - those of us that stood up to apple and continued demanding answers will carry that knowledge - those who stood here trying to shut those people down - be ashamed

There is no need to prove that Google Maps works perfectly well. Just as Natalie Portman has flaws, so too does Google Maps, but until a superior model comes along, Google Maps will suffice.....

Then there is Apple Maps. The defenders here have to prove to us that it works in many instances. The fact that you would not rely on Apple Maps with certainty escapes the high level Ingsoc people.

No, I am relying on Google Maps. You seem oblivious to the fact that Google Maps cannot find any address on that street. Yet, Google is providing lot numbers. Google has street view. I can see the street numbers - right where Apple says they are.

Actually if you read the very thread you are commenting on, you would see is about apple maps being "disappointing" not "ABSOLUTELY USELESS" and disappointing it is! "No search results found" is way too common. Even for major places in downtown locations. I used to use my iPhone as a GPS to explore all of the mountains in my area using the hundreds of miles of logging roads that WERE on the map, as well as all of the high mountain lakes that WERE labeled. Now it shows me I-90. Great, real useful. Thanks apple!

Anyone reading this, Etersoft is rambling about Google not finding anything in that street.

I live here in Melbourne victoria, I navigated to this street using Apple Maps. Apple maps took me to the wrong end of the street.

I then copy pasted the exact address into google maps (using Maps+) and it took me to the exact location I was looking for.

I also checked on Google Maps online and the same result. It takes me to the exact location I was looking for.

In Etresoft's labratory, Google Maps is not finding the address. I have no idea what he is talking about. When I follow Google Maps in my car to that address, I end up exactly where I want to be. When I follow Apple Maps with that exact information, I end up exacly 350 meters off target. With Apple Maps, that is a great result.

Love Apple Maps all you like, all I want is what I had previous to the update. Either Google Maps, or a mapping application at least as reliable that is integrated into iOS. At this point in time, Apple Maps is unusable in the city I live in because of the unreliability. It misses targets, sometimes by as little as 350 meters, often by entire blocks or worse. And even more often, it simply returns a "No Results Found."

Etersoft, you are a true warrior and I feel your love for Apple products, it is a very admirable trait that level of loyalty.

8+ weeks and counting

Apparently my apartment is 0.3km away from where it actually is and requires a toll road to reach it...

I have reported it not once but 3 times using my account. My girlfriend also reported the same address, as have several friends who used apple maps to visit.

Apple haven't exactly done much (that I and obviously many others here) can see to instil any faith in the system.

I have given up reporting now- this is a two way street... Apple need us to fix this rubbish but as they haven't cared about us, I no longer care about them. Without users help their attempt to close the gap on google will take too long - let them use their billions to fix the issue and come up with a quality product - it is after all why we pay a premium for apple products - they are supposed to "just work"...

Do note that Google corrections take months or longer to appear as well.

Stores I did a "move marker" for last year still appear in the wrong place. so it's no surprise the same is true for the Tom Tom data driving Apple Maps.

I have no reason to doubt you William. I have no personal experience of this, which will come as no surprise given I have had years of faultless navigation using google in my extensive travels.

Once again however your post is typical and covered in the point I made earlier - if the only good thing you have to say about apple maps is that google was once as bad then don't waste your effort - no one with a modicum of common sense cares what was once the case. What matters is that apple saw fit to deprive its paying customers, many of which purchased the iPhone because it including such a great navigation tool, of a functionality they once enjoyed and replaced it with rubbish - "useless" rubbish.

anyone here now arguing that the term "useless" is wrong really has lost the plot and is grasping at straws and trying to grab the nearest life vest on a sinking ship!

To use a previous analogy - Hyundai vs Porsche. If I were to describe Hyundai as useless you could argue that it is not - it still drives from A to B and I'm sure it does it well. If however it broke down even very occasionally or the doors didn't open sometimes - unlike the regular breakdown exhibited by apple maps, many would argue that it is useless as a reliable car.

I and many hundreds of thousands of people want a reliable navigation tool that integrates with public transport - google did this -Apple maps does not.

I think apple maps is useless as a reliable navigation tool.

is it really "useless" ? No of course not - I find it uses up valuable space on my iPhone very well.

It also provides me with no end of entertainment here on this thread.

Using the app itself has only provided me with one useful feature to date - the ability to spin the 3d rendering of my apartment - it looks great, it's a shame it still doesn't know it's my apartment and its a shame it can not navigate me to there when I need to -using public transport...

Well, the problem cannot be solved winning all arguments. You can talk till you turned blue and the problem for you is still there. You are right so are the people who doesn't have a problem. You don't have more rights. The world is not centering around you.

This long thread that leads to nowhere. This in my one comment, I will not follow this thread any longer. Apple is not here. Send feedback is the right way.

Let it rest. Buy or get a free GPS navigation app or another Phone. Apple is not going back because Apple believe in the future and been tied itself to a competition does not make good business sense.

Fine, I'll wake up:

Apple Maps has never failed to correctly direct me anywhere I wanted to go. Period. I actually like it much better than Google Maps.

If I were somewhere where Apple Maps had limited or no information, obviously that wouldn't be the case, but where I've gone - areas from rather rural to big cities - the maps have been accurate in directing me to where I wanted to go (and the turn by turn directions have been quite handy as well.)

You state it's "useless" and I find it's much better than what it replaced.

Is it perfect? Of course not.

But I've had quite a lot of luck with it, better in many cases than my Garmin Nuvi GPS unit.

But I'm also not sitting here telling everyone it's perfect; it's very good but more work needs to be done, and all existing mapping services that are not Google have a long way to go before they could ever reach parity with them.
