Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

It finds everything, correcly and is fast, vector based, has turn by turn - everything we lost is back and much better than before.

Love it!

Apple Maps - RIP

Downloaded it. Tried it. Deleted it. Apple maps has everything I need. Whatever floats your boat I guess but Google was forced into doing this. They absolutely have to have their services on iOS. It's a significant source of ad revenue for them. Let's face it, Google needs to play nice with Apple much more than the reverse. They intentionally crippled the original app and refused to add features popular on the opposing platform. When Apple kicked them to the curb they were forced into producing something better but according to reviews still lacking some features of the other platform. And the new app doesn't connect with your contacts list. Apple maps is launched. Let's see what the uptake is before declaring the Apple maps app RIP shall we. I think the competition will be intense from now on and will keep both compnaies on their toes.

Still want to claim dropping the original Google maps app was a big mistake? Doesn't look like it to me at all at this point.

and the ONLY reason it has all the bells and whistles now is because of Apple Maps.

Google refused to let Apple use them before.

Features are not the issue for this data driven application. It is the use of poor data that makes Apple's maps inferior. Apple's search and traffic data have entirely too many holes to make the app useful. Apple's data will improve and eventually catch up to google, but that will take time. I am glad to have google maps back.

Apple has always provided a superior product with the iphone IMO, but forcing their users to use Apple's inferior maps app without an option to rollback, showed that the user's experience is not as important to Apple as it had once been.

Indeed. Google wouldn't expand map features for the iPhone, so Apple invested in its own application and booted Google from Apple's integrated operating system. Now, Google adds a full-featured app, which will have far less users, because it's not a default app, and Apple has more time to improve its own system -- all because Google makes more money from iOS than it does from Android. I've been reading message boards this morning that have featured people commenting that they will now buy an iPhone 5 or update to iOS 6. Brilliant, indeed!

Don't know if you were being sarcastic, but your statement was accurate.

I actually had downloaded another version of Googlemaps on my phone (didn't really use it for directions, since i have a GPS). I just liked how it looked compared to the Apple maps. So today i just downloaded the newer version. Only thing is that the original Apple Maps is on my home screen. I know i can't delete it, but it sure seems like wasted space if you have Googlemaps.

From Fortune.com today - "in less than 24 hours, Google Maps became the number one free app in Apple's App Store. Of the 16,000-plus users who rated it, over 13,000 awarded the app five stars. One user review summed it up simply: "Now my iPhone can be useful for basic things... like directions."

I will be very surprised if over 10% of the IOS users continue to use Apple Maps a month from now.

It was a shoddy product, pretty useless for most people, the company realizes it and apologised plus fired two of their top executives. Now the numbers are speaking for themselves.
