Apple maps very disappointing

They are most likely embarrassed of their unrequited love of apple... I feel sorry for them and the fact that they somehow believe that they can be treated in any way that apple see's fit.

AAPL just traded down to 509 - history will remember this debacle and I am proud to have been involved here and the many news channels and journals I wrote to.

Faith in my iDevice has been restored however - hopefully apple will have learnt a valuable lesson..

and as far as the stock goes, price is almost always irrelevant to what AAPL releases product wise or earnings wise.

Release earnings for the biggest quarter ever and the price drops.

Beat earning estimates and price falls.

Release the fastest selling product ever and price drops.

It is simply traders trying to manipulate the stock for their own gain.

Or, perhaps Google has learned their lesson. They caved and gave Apple at least one of the things Apple wanted from them: spoken turn by turn directions.

Perhaps they have - it wasn't google that pulled the rug from under their paying customers feet however.

Google now have their name on the app - I'm sure they are happy. They have come out of this episode looking the better of the two companies

I don't know what it's like in your corner of the world, but share prices going down are not much of a novelty in most places. You gleefully report Apple prices going down as if the rest of the world's economy is not doing the same thing.

Of course it was - and Google is still doing it.

Google came out with a really nice mapping system and made it quick, easy, and free for everyone to use it. Then, Google changed the terms and now everyone who uses Google's data has to pay - a lot.

In response, Apple comes out with a service whose price is included in the price of Apple's products. Anyone can write an iOS map-based app and not worry about paying Google pre user request. Of course, they now have the option now of using Google's SDK, releasing a cool app that uses Google's map, and then being held hostage by Google when the usage fees get changed next year.

unlike being held hostage by apple when developers fee change? or an app is yanked without any reason because thats the 'policy'?

Yes apple maps are updated in weeks.... which is technically correct since a year has only 52 weeks, so even if they take 2 years, its just a little more than 100 'weeks'.

i have submitted around 5 simple corrections and 1 major correction and not one of them has been corrected as yet. and this was done 'weeks' ago.

Don't take it personally. Can you not imagine the number of people worldwide that might be trying to help Apple with map corrections, and the time it takes to verify the corrections and apply them to the faulty data?
