Apple maps very disappointing

agreed... i am with you on that... i was only replying to Chris CA who is strongly saying that he is certain that Apple fixes maps data in 'weeks'.

IIRC, I wrote something about other people have reported they have seen their reports get fixed.

Not quite sure why some people get so anal/nitpicky here, especially after they get what they want (google maps) but there ya' go.

Okay. What do these comments from a few weeks ago have to do with anything you posted today?

No idea why you are responding to 2+ week old posts.

And neither of these are "certain" or "strongly". Just that others have reported their errors fixed within weeks.

It was in response to RCGlass who wrote, "By the way, they said that a big part of the delay in updating has to do with vetting of proposed changes which apparently takes months."

Since Apple Maps was released not even three months ago and the Mildura fiasco was corrected a few days ago, that means it was reported almost immediately after iOS 6 was released, because apparently "it takes months to fix anything".

haha... a lot of things about apple i like..like the hardware... but the things i don't like, we must complain. and strongly. because thats the only way people higher up will eventually listen.

yes mildura was fixed because it was bad PR for them...reported all over the media. Not so with other 'user-reported' errors... those will still take 'weeks'

The Maps Story is over folks.

Apple Maps depends upon user updates to improve over time. However, most map users, in iOS and Android, are going to use Google maps. So, Google Maps, which is already far superior, will improve even more and much faster than Apple Maps can.

Serious users of maps will not use Apple Maps.

Some of the poor sods who still cling on to Apple Maps are anyway going to check again with Google Maps anytime they really are going somewhere, and dont want to get lost.

Now, with Google Maps SDK, other location based apps on iOS are also going to move to using Google Maps. It makes no sense for them to use Apple Maps, unless they want to lose to competitors.

This thread has no reason to exist anymore. The problem is solved.

The Apple developer fee doesn't change. It is a flat $99 a year regardless of how many users you have. Google charges based on usage. Right now, the Google Maps SDK is free, just like Google Maps used to be. The fees only start once Google gets people locked into its ecosystem.

Apple never "yanks" apps without a very good reason and that is extraordinarily rare.

you're misssing the point. point is you're still 'controlled' - whether its apple or google. anyone can change their terms anytime. there's no golden solution with either.

Once Google hits them with usage fees they will be back here asking how to change to Apple's MapKit. But then it will be too late.

I agree it will be too late because by then, the Apple Maps will be so inferior to Google Maps that it will not be an option of relevance to developers.

I guess I'm not a "serious" user.

Apple maps has yet to not find and accurately and directly route me to anyplace I wanted to go - IMHO much, much more accurately than my Garmin Nuvi does as well.

On the contrary, you are likely one of the very few really serious users of Maps. The exclusive, rare, difficult to find, few who do and shall find solace, comfort and directions in the most amazingly accurate maps application of all time - Apple Maps. Those poor dorks who insist on using Google Maps - that vast ignorant minority - if only someone could teach them, tell them the truth and show them the true path to nirvana - Apple Maps.

Plus, the course Apple has chosen is not clear. The new non upgradable iMac has increased in price by 30%, all the new laptops are more expensive and not upgradable thus reducing the useful life of those machines by at least a couple of years. Even repairing them will be expensive because a lot of the parts are glued in place. Is Apple moving us away from desktops and laptops, and moving us toward iPhones and iPads, making us totally dependent on iCloud? Is the move away from Google maps part of long range business plan to move us into a totally Apple enviorment where even the search engine is Apple? If this is the case, and if Apple is sucessful, then those of us who are comitted to the Apple system will be at the pricing mercy of Apple (pay up or get out). I think all will become clear in a couple of years.
