Which 13in Air?

I have decided to get my first macbook and am leaning towards the air. What processor/ram combo should I get? I already know I am getting the one with 256gb hard drive but I don't know if the extra $100 for an i7 and antoher $100 for 8gb ram is worth it. Or should I jsut go for the 13in. pro?

Definitely spend the $100 for 8 Gigs of ram. Since this can't be upgraded later it's well worth it for performance. I spent the extra hundred for the i7 but it depends on the mix of programs you run whether you really see much of a difference. The SSD makes both processors very fast since i/o speeds are typically what the machine is waiting on.

The processor upgrade may have value for some users who perform, in relative terms, a lot of processor intensive tasks like video encoding, or gaming. Otherwise, it is not really all that necessary. You should be fine without it.

On the other hand, the $100 upgrade for 8 GB of memory is a no brainer. Get it without a second thought. Not only is it a very reasonable price, it is something that a long term owner will value, on down the road. If you multitask, it will add zip and pep, like no other remedy can. Since you NEVER upgrade the memory, it is a good idea to get while you can. In the case of the Air, that is ony done when you order it that way.
