iOS 6 Music Not Really There

I have updated successfully to iOS 6 on an iPhone 4.

After restoring the backed up iPhone I happily found my music now on the phone. However, not all the music is actually on the phone. It skips between songs that it cannot find.

I am a member of iTunes match but the ability to download the 'missing' music is not present on any of the skipped tracks.

This is incredibly annoying. Has anybody else experienced the same and if so, have you found a solution?

Here is what worked for me (or at least it appears to be working). I followed someones suggestion above and erased everything from the iPhone, then did a restore from iCloud directly from the iPhone. It is taking a very long time, because it is restoring every app - but I checked in the music app and I can see songs, playlists, etc. etc. (not downloaded, but I can see them). I don't know if I still have 9 GB of "Other" data yet.

Successes and Failures:

1. Did a restore; everything seemed to be ok;

2. Tried to restore from an iCloud Backup that I had done AFTER installing ios6 - nightmare! Everything seemed to be going ok. It took 2 hours to download everything, but they once it went to start up the iPhone again, I got the little apple symbol and the progress bar went about 2 mm and then stopped. I left it all night (8 hours) no progress.

3. I plugged it into iTunes and it was able to wipe the phone. iTunes downloaded ios6 and re-installed it. Unfortunately, I have not backed up to iTunes since getting the iPhone 4S (all my old backups were through iCloud).

4. I decided to pretend this was a new phone. I then tried to do a restore AGAIN and use an older backup from before I installed ios6.

5. Unfortunately, (and possibly a download speed issue), the download wouldn't move after 2 hours.... so...

6. I took it out of the WiFi area, and it said: Cannot back up due to no internet connection.

7. Finally, I decided to start from scratch. Set up as a new phone, but entered my iCloud Details so, even though it did not back up from my old backup, I have not lost contacts, calendar events, reminders, Pages/Keynotes/Numbers files or photos from photo stream, or anything in the cloud, as it is simply re-downloading them. I then turned on iTunes Match in iTunes and App Stores (which automatically turned it on in Music. I opened up Music and got the cloud, but it started moving immediately and my entire library was there in 10 minutes. I can now start downloading/streaming/listening.

8. Because I am starting from scratch, I am redownloading all my apps (which is fine, since I Paid for all of them and I have few apps with "in-app purchases"). Actually a good cleansing process! Also had to re-enter my email information, and redo all my settings (not as fun)... only major concern besides lost time is I lost some videos I had recorded.

on that note, anyone know how I might be able to get those videos back (they are not in photostream, and it looks like they are not in the cloud either)... Good luck to everyone trying to deal with this mess.

Same issue for me after iOS6 upgrade. Match/iCloud works fine on my 3GS that I upgraded, but having all the problems listed here on my 4S. I'm not convinced a restore will work and I don't feel like going through the trouble after a day or so of this. I have to do enough troubleshooting in other areas of my life that I don't have the patience to spend a lot of time doign that on a phone. I figure my iPhone just doesn't play music anymore and I won't renew my Match subscription next year. Pretty sad for something that "just works". We should expect a lot more from Apple.

Hello everyone suffering from this issue! Read on if you wish to solve it without restoring the iPhone and redownloading all your music again.

First some info to begin. I was on latest iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 32 GB. I have updated OTA without backing up (thus my need to solve this without restore). I had to delete music before proceedeing to dowload since i didnt have 2,x GB free...

After the update I had the blank songs issue. Turning iTunes Match on got me stuck on the Cloud icon. Also the iPhone was showing 2,0 GB Free, but zero in music... approximately 20 GB had been missing (either in free, or music or other stuff).

I have followed Fabin's hint on page 8 and with iExplorer I have tried to delete the three "MediaLibrary" files. I couldn't delete all three and thats why I think didn't work.

I didnt want to delete the whole "iTunes Control" folder since there had been whole lot of music I didnt want to redownload, so I only deleted the "iTunes" folder. After reboot this had me stuck with empty library. I could redownload some of my purchases (which had been stuck since some time) and after a couple of reboots (home/power) and tries I managed to get to my Match library on the phone.

Now I had a iTunes Match library, but it didnt recognize the previously downloaded music. and I was missing serious free space.

I have turned off the iTunes Match and I have connected the phone to a random computer running latest iTunes. There I could see my old music and I could even play it. I have quit the music app and synced the phone.

My old music reappeared. And the phone shows that I have 10 GB free!!! I only had 9 gigs in music before and I didnt have free space probably due to some corrupted music files that have probably made the Music app crash. Let me know if this works for you...

My "solution" for now is to revert to using the Amazon Cloud Player exclusively. I'm not going to spend hours restoring my phone and re-downloading apps, etc. and re-oranizing all the **** folders for this. I already have a decent library on Amazon so will just be using that going forward.

What ****** me off is once you go Match, you never go back. I tried unsuccessfully as others did to just turn Match, genious, etc. off everywhere and load music the old fashioned way I did a year ago. No dice. Just see the 0 second audio files etc. What a complete POS.

I'll *never* buy into this Apple iCloud BS again.

Fixed.

Ok, I used i-funbox (it's free) and deleted the three files below as someone had suggested earlier.

After I deleted the files, my library on the device showed that it was empty. I was then able to synch up an album from iTunes to the device.

MediaLibrary.sqllitedb

MediaLibrary.sqllitedb-shm

MediaLibrary.sqllitedb-wal

I then re-enabled Match on the device, got the dreaded cloud of death, but I got a nice blue progress bar to go with it. Took a minute or so for the blue bar to complete.

Now I have all the iCloud music available from the device (approx 8k songs).
