Successes and Failures:
1. Did a restore; everything seemed to be ok;
2. Tried to restore from an iCloud Backup that I had done AFTER installing ios6 - nightmare! Everything seemed to be going ok. It took 2 hours to download everything, but they once it went to start up the iPhone again, I got the little apple symbol and the progress bar went about 2 mm and then stopped. I left it all night (8 hours) no progress.
3. I plugged it into iTunes and it was able to wipe the phone. iTunes downloaded ios6 and re-installed it. Unfortunately, I have not backed up to iTunes since getting the iPhone 4S (all my old backups were through iCloud).
4. I decided to pretend this was a new phone. I then tried to do a restore AGAIN and use an older backup from before I installed ios6.
5. Unfortunately, (and possibly a download speed issue), the download wouldn't move after 2 hours.... so...
6. I took it out of the WiFi area, and it said: Cannot back up due to no internet connection.
7. Finally, I decided to start from scratch. Set up as a new phone, but entered my iCloud Details so, even though it did not back up from my old backup, I have not lost contacts, calendar events, reminders, Pages/Keynotes/Numbers files or photos from photo stream, or anything in the cloud, as it is simply re-downloading them. I then turned on iTunes Match in iTunes and App Stores (which automatically turned it on in Music. I opened up Music and got the cloud, but it started moving immediately and my entire library was there in 10 minutes. I can now start downloading/streaming/listening.
8. Because I am starting from scratch, I am redownloading all my apps (which is fine, since I Paid for all of them and I have few apps with "in-app purchases"). Actually a good cleansing process! Also had to re-enter my email information, and redo all my settings (not as fun)... only major concern besides lost time is I lost some videos I had recorded.
on that note, anyone know how I might be able to get those videos back (they are not in photostream, and it looks like they are not in the cloud either)... Good luck to everyone trying to deal with this mess.
