I just updated to ios6 and now I can't connect to the Internet without getting being redirected to the apple site. HELP!
I have the same issue, After i updated my ipad 3 to iOS 6 ,I connect to my wifi and then it brings me to an apple web page and disconnects my wifi
The issue is that the page the device loads in the background to check for captive portals -- networks the make you log in with a browser -- is down so it thinks every network is a captive portal.

It's not an OS problem, its a website problem on Apple's end.
Exact the same issue here with iPad 3 and Cisco wifi AP.
So I've been having this issue on both my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S since upgrading to IOS6... I think I've figured it out though. It seems that whenever you connect to a WiFi access point, the device is trying to connect to a particular page on www.apple.com... I'm assuming to test internet connectivty, but who knows!
Anyway, this connection is failing (probably with a 401/unauthorised) and causing the device to think the access point requires authentication.
I've proven this by blocking access to www.apple.com on my router - now everything works again!
As soon as apple fix the page on their website I'm sure everything will return to normal...
(Note: I had erroneously logged in as my wife, carose earlier)
Despite my concern and amazingly, after doing the "clear cache and history" the 2nd time on my iPad, WiFi works.
Kind of amazing. Don't know why it took 2 tries, but hopefully it resolves other's problems.
I tried the clear cache and history and it didn't work. What worked for me was forgetting the WiFi networks I had (I have two in the house) then I rebooted and reconnected to the networks. Works fine. Seriouslly annoyed at Apple and their bad QA. The last couple major releases seem to have been marred by problems like this.

Just got a call back from AppleCare. They said the the problem "is solved" (although the support rep didn't exactly know why). Recheck your devices -- they should be able to connect to wifi now. You will need to select the wifi network the first time (it will not automatically conect). Both my devices now work. Very strange.
I had the same problem. I restarted our Airport Extreme and the iPhone and now everything seems to be working.
I had the same issue on my ipad and iphone after updating to ios6, and long story short, updating the firmware on my older Airport Express solved the issue! If you have one run Airport Utility on your computer to check.
Came across this problem when updating my son's 4th Gen iPod Touch from 5.1.1 to 6.0.
This fixed the problem for me:
Settings-->General-->Reset-->Reset Network Settings (you will have to reconnect to your WiFi/re-input password)
Reboot iPod
Settings-->Wi-Fi-->Turn Off
Reboot iPod
Settings-->Wi-Fi-->Turn On-->Connect to Wi-Fi/re-input password
It wasn't until I restarted the iPod with Wi-Fi disabled/turned off that it fixed the problem/wouldn't disconnect.
I cleared all the settings in my IPAD 3 and then in safari setting, rebooted my IPAD and now is perfectly working.
I just talked to them, no FIX, they said its a major problem a LOT of people are having and just keep a eye on APPLE.COM for any fixes that come up. The strange thing is, as i was talking to him it just started working again, for now. Be he did say, let people know we know about the issue, we do not have a fix for it now and we will let everyone know as we find a fix
I was having the same issue. I went to Settings > Safari and cleared my browsing history and cookies/data. That solved the problem. I was able to connect to the wifi with no issues after that.
i was able to resolve this issue by typing in success in search field when my ipad navigated to the page can not be found after the upgrade.
Hello Everyone,
It's not really a big issue. It's just a bit tricky.
Upon installing iOS6, this also happened to me. It asked me to choose a wireless network and it would launch a Safari browser and disconnect from the wifi immediately.
To fix this, just press any of the links on the page (apple logo, etc) and then PRESS BACK with Safari. The wifi connection will come back and upon pressing back it will say "Success". You can now proceed to the next step and finish the iOS6 installation.
