The wi fi button on this upgrades 4s was totally inoperable for several days. THEN it worked for several days after shutting every thing totally off for awhile. It worked quite effortlessly for two days. UNTIL I came home today, noticed the wi fi connection to the phone was absent, button again grayed and useless. Have tried everything (resetting network settings, turning off phone, turning off cellular data... nada) except putting the blinkin thing in the freezer. Again, short on ideas.

Same here. The problem is some people on internet keep posting network reset, setting proxy to auto or restarting router work arounds. Although this would have worked for some but majority still has problem. With these solutions being posted again and again apple is thinking as a user problem and ignoring the issue. The need to fix it.

Just an update that the wifi button is still greyed out and inoperative since Sept 25, after inexplicably WORKING 2 days, after NOT working since the OS 6 upgrade on this iphone 4s about a wk ago. I tried dumping the safari cache as mentioned by someone this morning which had no effect.

also for unknown reason the battery was running down faster than normal yesterday by a large amount. And I keep the phone on standby with no apps in the background, and don't use this phone alot.

A couple of things. I was sent to this site when I contacted my local Apple store about the problem with the WiFi. I assumed when they told me about it that this site was monitered by an Apple tech and I would get help with this. Apparently I was wrong. So now I'll have to go pay them a visit and try again.

Second thing, A co-worker today asked me about my iPhone, because he was thinking about getting a 5. I told him it used to be great until the lastest software upgrade, and I told hime about the WiFi problems. He googled it and there are an incredible amount of threads, write-ups on this problem. As he was looking at them, mine kicked out of WiFi. I told him it happpens all the time. He's getting a Sansung phone. Apple really needs to address this or let me go back to 5.11

have appt at Apple Store day after tomorrow, because a software fix to a greyed and inoperative wi fi toggle on this 4s upgraded to OS 6 hasn't been addressed by Apple through their website or the media. There is a lot of talk of Maps (Hey I am good with Mapquest, that works fine for me) but would be real pleased to hear the company address the multitude of wi fi connection issues.

The trip to the Sprint store a couple days ago yielded "I feel ya" and "Could we make an appt for you at the Apple Store". I should have made the appt then and not waited til today. Will report back.

Just wanted to report that the iPhone was tested at the Apple store this morning (ps make appt if you go or expect long wait) , confirmed inoperative wi fi button, tried restoring it (no dice). Confirmed it as a hardware malfunction. They replaced the 4s phone which I had bought in Jan, with another 4s which he activated with my carrier on the spot.

Next he updated the new phone from OS 5 to 6. I said WAIT! lets think about that a moment because that was the source of the prob. He suggested that we do it and if it didn't work it would give them more date to be able to determine an ultimate fix. Made sense, so he updated it to 6.

I mentioned that if it was a hardware failure it must have been a result of the firmware update which accompanied the update to OS 6 of last weekend. He did not disagree with that.

The oddest thing to me about the experience is that the greyed out wi-fi button worked normally and I could access my home network Monday morning until Tuesday afternoon, but before and after that- nothing.

I did not change or try to change anything in my home network (cable internet to airport) other than the regular nightly turning them off.

So two hours later, all is still running right. If you are not near an apple store? what? to your phone service provider or via snail mail to apple? Good luck. Signing off for now unless...
