iOS 6 update = Speaker not working properly

My speaker was fine and I have no reason to believe there are any hardware issues. As soon as I updated my iOS 5.1.1 to the new iOS 6 it stopped working and now I can't listen to music or watch videos on my iPhone unless I insert a headphone!

What's happened and how can this be resolved?

try this website http://iphonenosound.com/
I used step 9 - the hairdryer on lowest heat and it worked, that was after trying all of the youtube solutions like rubbin alcohol on hair dye brushes etc

thought i'd come back and help out and try and save some of you time and hard earned money.

let me know how you get on hope this helps for you as it did for me 🙂

Another testament to the hair dryer option. I tried other suggested solutions on my son's 4S, but nothing made the speakers work wit the latest iOS. The volume bar completely gone etc, headphones are fine, but speakers are not. A few minutes of a hair dryer on low pointed at the speakers & dock connector, and all problems were gone. Thanks benniboi7!

I've fixed this exact problem by clearing out lots of accumulated pocket lint from inside the iPhone dock connector with a paper clip.

This prompted me to think it is an electrical issue:

http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/85696/my-iphone-thinks-its-always-docke d-volume-slider-disappeared-with-no-audio-o/87555#87555

So it is likely that PIN 11 is alsways grounded by the debris in the dock connector, casuing this issue.

Hope that helps..

My speakers were perfect until the update. I want to know why apple is not fixing this with another update or how long it will take to be repaired if taken to the apple store. As I can see I'm not the only one having this issue and it is wrong of apple to not fix this ASAP there are obviously multiple customers this has happened to & this is a problem from Apple's side. They need to fix it.

Thanks for your reply and others help..I tried but nothing worked and still think its software ..Even if this update is blowing speakers i find it very odd..I have sold it to my sister for cheap price, she is going to use it on wifi for stuff and use it as ipod through headphone.I may go for iphone 5 again or wait till next iphone.I am using old sgs2 at moment..If i get another 4s second hand how do i know it wont happen again? Buying a new iphone 5 just before a new one is due seems daft..Will see on next payday..Thanks all.

So I call with tech support. They have me restore phone, which after is done, speakerphone works, so tech tells me that means it is a software issue. Now working with me to load everything from backup but said have to piece meal it back together to see if there is something causing the issue. Asked tech if he is getting alot of calls because of what I read on these boards and he stated not more than normal. I'll let everyone know if this seems to work.

And now we have circled back to hardware issue because volume buttons won't function correctly. Complained that either software causing problem or software has now brought to light that there is a batch of equipment that was flawed. Rep not disagreeing but not in position to make that decision. Option is to have repaired, but at my cost. Is asking supervisor to see if they will waive the cost, but I know the answer. Apple is not trying to take responsibilty for this at all.

Too all users who are having the issue with speakers not working they have said that it is not the IOS's fault it may simply be a coincidence that this happened right after IOS. Take it in to apple tell them what has happened and if you are under warranty still they will fix whatever is broken within 10 minutes for free. Just be sure you back up everything before doing this. For me I had this issue but they are saying they have to replace my whole phone because it wasn't the speakers that were messed up It was something inside of the phone. I hope this helped all of you guys having an issue I posted this because I was in the same position the other day and someone posting this would have helped me out alot. ( : Good Luck everyone.

Sounds like what someone said about software burning out speaker ,how else can a speaker fail unless its faulty or amplifier is faulty ..The only other reason is bad coonection causing crackling sound then connection fails altogether..My sister who i sold mine too has still got the problem but just uses headfones so ok,,well its not ok but she got cheap iphone off me..Have ordered a second hand 4s again to try out under 8 day return and 1 year warranty,,want to buy iphone 5 but mine came with chips in it last year so sent back..What problem will be in new iphone ???
