iOS 6 update = Speaker not working properly

My speaker was fine and I have no reason to believe there are any hardware issues. As soon as I updated my iOS 5.1.1 to the new iOS 6 it stopped working and now I can't listen to music or watch videos on my iPhone unless I insert a headphone!

What's happened and how can this be resolved?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

ATTENTION APPLE PERSONNEL: DO YOU HEAR US?!?!?! YOU ARE LOSING LOYAL APPLE SUPPORTERS!!! I am FURIOUS w/Apple!! I (WAS) a VERY loyal Mac person. I own 9+ Apple products (2 computers, iPad, etc.) I am a teacher who uses Apple products in my classroom on a daily basis, and I am trained to instruct other teachers on using Apple technology in the classroom. I am one of the MANY in this chat who is having the same problem w/my 4s.The lack of support from Apple for an OBVIOUS problem w/ the speakers on the iPhone 4s DISGUSTING!

Two days ago I had the phone on speaker, while in mid-conversation, the speaker "just went" and no longer works. The phone doesn't ring, alarm doesn't work, etc. Phone works when put up to ear, and sound still works when headphones plugged in, but no external sounds. As with the rest of you, this seemed to happen shortly after I updated my phone to 6.1.2.I spent 2 hours in the Verizon store, 30+ min on the phone w/Apple and only to get the same, run-a-round from all! The Apple customer service rep said that I could get a replacement for $199, being that the year warranty had passed. (At the time of purchasing my phone, I was unaware of applecare for iphones until the 30 days had run out, therefore have Verizon insurance, which is pointless!) I have spent hours researching a resolution to the problem, and nothing has worked.

What makes this so frustrating is that I have taken good care of my phone; have an OtterBox case, use only Apple approved chargers for iPhone, etc. Basically, I have done everything right to care for my phone, and where does it get me?! NOWHERE! I would understand if I had done something wrong, but this is a defect w/ the phone, and I (we) should not have to pay $200 to have the phone fixed/repaired for a software issue which is the fault of Apple. All I want is a working phone that rings. Is that too much to ask?

My last resort is going to an Apple Store (90 miles away) and if the issue isn't resloved, I am going w/ a Samsung.

THANK YOU APPLE?????

really. OK lets thank Apple for sending out an update that renders our phones SOUND USELESS, and then makes us drive MILES AND MILES to a store to stand in lines to get it working?

I think I have a very different idea of the Phrase THANK YOU.

I have had an iPhone from DAY 1. Die-hard Apple user. Several iPads, iPhones, iPods, computers. Updated my iphone 5 today, sound went STATIC SOUND-POP and now it's not working. Like just about everyone here- yes can call, yes can hear on call, but NO sound anyplace else. and JUST after an update. NAAAA they aren't related. right.

LAZY? yeah, 3 kids, different schedules, work full time, and leaving on a trip in 2 days. I'm am the polar opposite of lazy. I have NO time for this.

So THANK YOU APPLE. (drip drip)

Elanstiles - I agree with you 100%! Ain't nobody got time to go to the store to have them tell you the same thing they do on the phone - "it's a hardware issue. $200 to replace it". At least now I know it's not just an issue with the 4s model, but the 5 as well.

The nearest store to me is just as close as Apple Headquarters. Maybe I should just show up there with this entire conversation printed!

There's NO fix for it. Dont waste your time erasing everything and reseting phone as new. Its an operating system error. I had to go to the store and after they ran all the tests, they gave me a refurbished phone. At least the speaker works now. I opened a case with apple support. I’m hoping engineering department will fix this issue before they release another update.

Take your phone to Apple store and tell them to replace your speaker and test it again. They will see that after the speaker has been replaced, it still will not work so they will have to give you a new phone!!!

Hi all, i tried all the fixes and nothing worked but about an hour ago i was messing around with my phone (4S by the way) and started unplugging and plugging back in the charger cable fast for about 30 seconds and now it's working. Not saying this will work for anybody else but it worked for me so i thought i should tell others with the same problem as me.
