iOS 6 update = Speaker not working properly

My speaker was fine and I have no reason to believe there are any hardware issues. As soon as I updated my iOS 5.1.1 to the new iOS 6 it stopped working and now I can't listen to music or watch videos on my iPhone unless I insert a headphone!

What's happened and how can this be resolved?

I am just in the process of doing the update. I called apple support on Friday & they told me to do the update but wouldn't admit to there being any known issues with the speaker, just you should try the update & if its still a problem call back! Plus on the update release there is absolutely no indication that there was an issue with the speaker. Another thing that I have noticed, which started at the exact time of the speaker issue is that my battery drains like a balloon with a hole! Crossing my fingers!

My problem has not fully resolved either!! My speaker is present so I do have the volume controls however the max volume of my speakers is hardly audible through my headphones. It's not the headphones they work fine on other MP3 players. Plus my power still drains WAY too fast! This so with making sure I have no other apps running in the background & just using one app at a time (wi-fi, Bluetooth, hotspot all turned off)! In about 10-15 mins if safari browsing I lose about 10% battery life!!

This iOS6 seems to be an incredible short coming on Apples part, being released with so many bugs & issues! It's like releasing a Beta version of an OS to all your users! It seems like their full focus was on meeting iPhone 5 hardware needs but forgetting to date of the iOS 6 release 100% of your customer base is using 4S, 4, 3,....models!!

I guess since they still are not willing to admit that there is even an issue with the speakers or power, they most likely are not going to have a fix soon, perhaps in the hopes people just feel it is time to maybe upgrade their hardware!

My problem also started after I had my phone connected to my computer to charge. I wasn't syncing no was iTunes opened, the phone was just charging.

RESOLVED!

I too was having the issue of sounds not working on both my iPhone 4S & iPad 2 for games, apps, even notifications as other frustrated users above after upgrading to IOS 6. When in a game, no sounds or effects would work, but if select a song from my playlist, no problem. I tried every setting option with no luck. Rebooting didn't work either. Finally as a last ditch effort, I went to "Settings-General-Reset-Reset All Settings" (which doesn't erase any data), which now all the sounds are finally working as it was before IOS 6.

It's a pain since you have to go back and setup all the setting once again (and there's a lot), but this should ensure future updates work just fine from now on.

Hope this helps!

Yes I would not recommend resetting anything. This issue is something that Apple should be fixing & not us the consumers!! Even if it does require a reset of anything, that is something Apple can script into their updates & we shouldn't have to come up with these fixes ourselves!! Just very dissapointed with Apple in handling this iOS 6 release!!

That being said, so far it has been about 5 days since I updated to iOS 6.0.1 and my iPhone 4 speaker has been working. However, my headphone sound is still Very restricted! On full volume I can barely hear the music! Also the issue with my battery life being very poor, drains extremely quickly! These issues still are not resolved. I don't know if it was in this thread but someone said that they had this speaker issue on their iPhone 4 while their iPhone 3S had no speaker issues! For me this all started when I first charged my phone from my computer via USB. I will test that out again & post back. Good luck.

Also call Apple, there is an option to select iOS 6 update as an option even if you are out of warranty that way you can explain your exact issues to them plus inundate their tech support with all these issues. I have a feeling they really don't pay attention to these forums!!its probably more just for us to gripe & not feel alone!! ;-)

Hi everyone,

Have quite an odd case here, I have looked through this entire thread and it looks like it is quite a unique situation.

My speakers do not work (that is not the unusual part). When I open my music app on my Iphone 4s, it does not have an option to change the volume. It is as if my phone thinks it is plugged into a dock, where the volume is controlled by a seperate entity.

I plug my phone into my car via AUX cable usually, until this situation happened. (I do not get sound from headphones either). I was forced to plug in my phone via usb into my stereo, when I half take out the USB connector from the bottom of my phone, music will play out of the speakers perfectly. It will also work for some time after unplugging, then it dies, and I cannot use my speakers again until I re-plug my phone back into a dock/my car (USB charger does not work).

Has anyone ever had a problem like this before? Or any ideas how to fix. I tried cleaning the headphone port as suggested multiple times but with no success... As I previously mentioned, it is as if my phone thinks there is something half stuck in the usb connector which only resembles a dock at odd points during the day... It just doesn't make sense!

I have tried plugging it into a dock and disconnecting it multiple times, still no luck I also tried all the resets known to man! I have done too many resets.... I cannot change the volume settings either. If I press the volume up or down buttons on the side of the phone, nothing happens on screen (I get no volume level image). I tried setting an alarm and the speaker works fine for alarms, I can adjust the volume by pressing the volume controls on the side, but I still do not get any volume level image pop up on my screen...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
