iOS6 - Wi-Fi on iPad gives error "Unable to join network"

IMPORTANT: This discussion question relates to a specific error affecting iPad users. Please make certain that your comment refers to the same error.

Problem

Attempting to connect to a home, Wi-Fi network on iPad3 running iOS 6 (64G, Wi-Fi) always returns the error "Unable to join the network "NetworkName" ".

Background

- Router is a Netgear WGT624v3, running the latest firmware, with no bells and whistles enabled. Bog-standard wireless. No extended range, no high-speed mode--nothing.

- Network mode is WPA2-PSK [AES].

- Prior to the iOS 6 update, my iPad3 connected to my network without any problems.

- I have reset the router and tried other authentication protocols.

- I have reset the iPad3. I have restored the iPad. I have reset the iPad's network settings.

- I have emptied the Safari data, turned off Siri, and disabled location information.

- I have enabled Auto proxy, used Airplane mode, and disabled 'Ask to join networks'.

- If it has been suggested on these forums, I have tried it.

- Nothing so far has fixed this problem. I cannot login to my WiFi at all, not even for a moment.

- In other words: this is different than the issue some people were having where they could log in, but were kicked off and redirected to an apple login page. I have never been able to login at home. My login is rejected.

Notes

Using the computer at my university, where we have a Wi-Fi connexion with login page, worked. I typed my password, and Wi-Fi logged on as normal, after which the university login page appeared. It worked fine all afternoon. When I came home, it still did not work with my home network.

Presumed Cause

The only thing that has changed since the iPad was working is the installation of iOS 6. Therefore, this appears to be an issue with iOS 6.

intermittent wifi issues as well since upgrading to iOS6

In my case apple replaced the iPad and wiped my old one clean.

I got it home and I have the same issue.

Went back and said it still plays up Mr Apple

Mr Apple said the only thing incommon was the WiFi (My Router).

I explained that there waa sone other thing incommon. iOS6

Got home and thourght I'd look up and see if I could find a solution on Google and got About 37,000,000 results (0.22 seconds)

Mr Apple forgot to mention this 🙂

Gentil_Jr!

Aguardo teu retorno! Desde já, muito obrigada,

Dani

Sigh. I just went through the same exercise (going to the Apple Store, Genius Bar, and having IOS 6 reloaded from scratch), and it did NOT fix my (wifi connectivity) problem. In fact, it is actually worse now -- I can't even get the wifi running long enough to access the Apple Store (to try to reinstall all the apps that got deleted from my "refreshed" iPad 3). Prior it was sporadic at least...

I was having a huge amount of trouble with my iPhone 5 with iOS 6, WiFi was not connecting at all even though my iPad and family's phones worked fine. In the end I just messed with my router settings and cycled the wifi channels (Go into your router control website and advanced wireless settings) until it connected and I also used a static IP address with manually copied DNS addresses from my PC.

Give this a go if you're hopelessly lost like I was.

Had "unable to join network" for both iphone 4 & iPhone 3GS since their 1st upgrade to ios6

What worked for me was to force the 2.4Ghz channel to a "manual" fixed value instead of having Channel selection set to "automatic" in my router configuration.

My router is an Apple Time Capsule so what I did in detail was :

In Airport Utility go to the Wireless tab.

Change the radio mode to 802.11a/n-802.11b/g.

Change the radio Channel Selection to "manual".

Set the 5GHz to automatic and the 2.4GHz to 11.

All the other reset on the phone &/or the router in whatever order, all the restore & all iOS upgrades since iOS 6 had FAILED but THIS, worked in a snap for both phones after monthes of false hopes & struggle !!....

Had the same problem with my wifi extender from Netgear and my iphone. I ended up changing the password for the extender (forgot that I did) and in doing so my phone saved the old password and that's why I guess it was giving me those same messages. I clicked the forget network button, tried joining again which it asked me for my password again and put the right one in and now it works! 🙂 Hope it does the same for everyone else, I was fiddeling with it for about an hour before I found this out.
