iOS6 - Terrible Maps - When is Google Maps coming back

I have just installed iOS6 and I am so disappointed with the new Maps application. Steve Jobs would have never allowed such a mediocre application to be included in the iOS.

Apple, please bring back Google Maps so that we can actually use for our real life!

Just to be fair, Goole Maps showed my house from 2007/2008 when I owned a red car. I sold that car in 2008. Apple maps is the only one that showed an updated map.

I did use Apple maps on a drive to Boulder a week ago and found it confusing. It took me two attempts to get back on the highway heading east. These areas in Boulder were areas that you only had a short distance to try and make the right turns and with the big green sign on the top of the screen, it hides a big chunk of the map that can possibly help people see where they need to turn. i didn't see a way to zoom in or out like on my Garmin GPS.

I have just downloaded latest IOS 6 for iPhone. The maps look fine except, and this is the major except, it is approximately 8 years old based on the data on the map. Living out in the sticks of Devon, I am sort of used to stuff being a bit behind the times, but 8 years is crazy, and particulary coming from such a cutting edge company like Apple I am seriously surprised.

I am quite willing to accept that there will be teething problems with a shift from Google Maps to their own version, but come on guys, looks like they were conned into buying an ancient data sheet to get things moving.

secondly, once again Apple is only really providing for the American market - so the sport update for Basketball, Amercian Football is completely pointless to anyone outside USA.

I live right in California, in a residential community along the coast about 30 miles from Apple Headquarters. Even here, the detail in Apple's new iOS 6 maps is inferior compared to google maps. For example, there are no property lines so all neighborhood detail is lost beyond just the street markings. Lots of businesses are left out. I'm sure the point has already been made, but we should have a choice. Fine if Apple sees an opportunity to offer a new map app. However, it many ways, it falls short compared to google. This is just too much like microsoft forcing the use of explorer on all windows machines. Apple is using its dominance to force the use of specific software. Shameful. Apple -- please put the google maps in the app store NOW. (And I did post this in Apple's feedback site.)

Google Maps on iphone came in handy even when I was driving to places never been before. Precise directions and distance and routes.

Apple Maps fails to give directions between prominent places in Mumbai, India. Whereas Google Maps identifies every corner of the city, Apple lags way behind. Highly disappointed with the upgrade (rather a downgrade). Apple, pl understand, you cannot master all subjects. Let the experts do the job and experts in mapping is no doubt Google Maps and are improving day by day.

You lost this time apple...lost it big time.

From what I have read regarding public transportation, Apple decided not to take a one-size-fits-all approach and let developers design apps suitable for specific transportation systems with potentially more bells and whistles than provided in Google Maps.

Unfortunately, all of them were not available on launch day. Hopefully until then, people will find work-arounds (including Google through Safari).

The amount of negative feedback on this new map is so bogus it's not even funny! This map is better then google maps actually thanks to the turn by turn directions. Everything else is the SAME as google maps. I keep seeing people saying "so and so directions don't work" or "I put this in the search and it found nothing". I have went and search with those EXACT terms and found results, ones that work and give directions too. Like the person that said they can't find a BMW dealer in Kansas City....fail...I found it. The person that posted the route from a route from Sausalito to San Fransico and the results showed "ferry required" is BS, I did the search and it put me on the toll road and said "requires toll".

So much haterade going around and my guess is these people are just morons and don't know how to use the map functions on the phone, or they don't have the phone and just going along with the general internet bashings.

If you need iphone 5 maps to look at the Statue of Liberty then you need something better to do or better yet try google images you gold star you!

I guess it depends where the person complaining is located. As I said in an earlier post, the street names in the area where I live in Fair Haven, MI are out of position by one street. If I go to a town a few miles away where my brother lives, the street names are correct. It all depends where you are looking on Maps. To some, everything appears fine. But, many of us have found problems. I know my street names are out of position. What if I'm going to an area I'm not familiar with? The complaints are legitimate and before you call others morons, perhaps you should take a look in the mirror.

Chad711,

What you say is patently false. I have been relying on Google Maps public transport directions. Apple does not give me this. Period. It's not that it's worse, it doesn't even exist. And now in iOS6, Safari so slow that I cannot use GoogleMaps via the Web.

Also, Google maps used to show major pathways within local parks, but Apple Maps only shows me a green patch, that's it.

Lucky for you that the maps are good enough for where you are. For many people in other locations, the app is unuseable and we've not been given an alternative choice.

Chad, your name-calling and childish comments aren't necessary and contribute nothing to the conversation.

The Maps app is not doing the job and needs a major update because it's data is over a year old and it does not function properly. I just went to the Northest Kingdom in Vermont on assignment this morning. I rely on Maps to help me navigate. It produced many errors. Two of the location routes were wrong. One of the roads that has been there for over 100 years did not show up on the map! Several of the wind turbines I was trying to locate were not in the satellite view. They were installed a couple years ago. MAPS is not up to the usual Apple standard.

Your comments are not helpful because all they offer are attacks with a bully attitude. Most people in these forums are not so mean spirited. Most actually try to help!
