iOS6 - Terrible Maps - When is Google Maps coming back

I have just installed iOS6 and I am so disappointed with the new Maps application. Steve Jobs would have never allowed such a mediocre application to be included in the iOS.

Apple, please bring back Google Maps so that we can actually use for our real life!

Hello David,

I know this is off topic, but I assume from your response in your post that you updated to the new iOS 6 system. I updated and noticed lower battery performance than before the update. I tried your reset instructions listed in past posts, but when I go to 'Reset All Settings' I don't get the new setup screen with language setup and set up as new phone.

I've tried multiple times to reset, but still I don't get the new setup screen. I remember from your reset post you said the following:

If you do not get the complete new setup screen with language setup and setup as new phone or restore from iTune/iCloud backup, be sure to go back to #1 and reset all settings again (it should happen the second time)

Any thoughts on what to do next?

Can some of you Fan boys please contact your apple people and recall ios6

Please.

This community is louder then ever.

And I think it's about time some one listens to us consumers.

I'm sure it a small call to google and a check and we could be back running a product that actually works.

Tired of hearing about apple stocks skyrocket, when there product is failing big time.

Just get the old google map back.

Who actually cares about a 3d map???

This is a huge step back. A strategic failure on the part of a great company. I am an apple fan, Imac, three Ipads, iphone, macbook air. Made the mistake of upgrading IPAD and Iphone to IOS6. I want to go back. How could you screw maps app so badly. No transit direction, poor quality. This is a huge fiasco. Apple needs to clean this up quickly. If this doesn't get fixed I will have to buy Samsung S3 next week. I am so heart broken. Youtube and google maps were the heart of the amazing user experience and added so much to apple....I am all for competition, but not at the expense of putting up a subpar product. 3D doesn't add a lot of value...it looks cool but what I need is to be able to search for local places (terrible on new maps) and find them. Now I can't...I have to use google maps on mobile browser, a huge step back. What were you thinking?

Please put out a press release, appologize to your customers, swallow your pride, and make a deal with google. Leave search, maps, and youtube to them. Focus your efforts on making great devices and great software. You are not a competitor in this space.

Its the user experience that makes this company special...and Apple just screwed that up in a big way.

@JLspider: You still have YouTube, it is just no longer baked in the pie (Apple pie of course). There is a free app easily downloadable.

If Maps is the primary function of one's smartphone, then iOS 6 as it stands today, is not for you. However, this is not the entirety of the new OS or the iPhone 5. Ther are just a few other features that some might find useful - faster, stronger battery, photo enhancements, etc., etc..etc.

Like everything else in life, one must decide what is most important to them and choose from there.

I just called Apple.

According to the higest ranking person I could get in touch with said

" When an update to iOS 6 has been done it is impossible to downgrade the OS"

To what I said , that is BS. He then said it was basicly googles fault and I should give them feedback.

There will be no help from Apple. But there greedy shareholders are probably laughting all the way to the bank as we speek.

Is it possible to downgrade using a Jailbreak ? I just want a product that works.

You can have google maps back. In Safari, go to maps.google.com

When maps opens on your phone a box will pop from Google asking if you want to put Maps on your Home screen and the dialog box is just above the forward icon. Touch and choose put on home screen.

Voila. Google Maps at the touch of a button.

And for those who are all upset over maps, you do know there are loads and loads of map options in the App Store, don't you?

This is not a disaster, though many of you seem to think it is. Or do you just enjoy reading your, I'm right, Apple is wrong, posts?
