No, I thought I'd just complain to see myself type.  Of course I reported it!!

Good! Reports such as that will contribute to the improvement of the app. Thanks!

I too think the Apple maps app is crap and have relegated it to the 'page which never gets looked at' screen on my phone and replaced it with the Google maps icon dowloaded as described above.

I have lodged one report with Apple as the road I live on is non-existant but will not be assisting in improving the app any further as I use maps too often to have the poor functionality.

Yes it will improve over time and with users reporting problems but when it is so bad to start with, it is very hard to even try to support it's improvement.

Apple have stuffed up with this one, and their silence (and they must know it's a dog due to the level of negative media) shows a contempt for users. I believe they should come out and admit it is not great and either pull it completely until there is a proposed fix or advise the proposed fix (I also feel confident there will be a fix).

It's not the end of the world as Google is still able to be accessed and used, and is pretty much the gold standard, particularly in the more developing and remote parts of this world. Not everyone with an iPhone lives in first world cities!

There's some kind of political crap reason, which I (and most iPhone users) could care less about.

The amount of negative feedback on this new map is so bogus it's not even funny! This map is better then google maps actually thanks to the turn by turn directions. Everything else is the SAME as google maps. I keep seeing people saying "so and so directions don't work" or "I put this in the search and it found nothing". I have went and search with those EXACT terms and found results, ones that work and give directions too. Like the person that said they can't find a BMW dealer in Kansas found it. The person that posted the route from a route from Sausalito to San Fransico and the results showed "ferry required" is BS, I did the search and it put me on the toll road and said "requires toll".

So much haterade going around and my guess is these people are just morons and don't know how to use the map functions on the phone, or they don't have the phone and just going along with the general internet bashings.

If you need iphone 5 maps to look at the Statue of Liberty then you need something better to do or better yet try google images you gold star you!

Apple's map app is a moving target. Programmers are working 24/7 trying to fix problems. When I wrote on 9/21 that the map app couldn't find the Baron BMW in Kansas City, this was true at that time. Now, on 9/24, it is able to find Baron BMW without any problems. This is encouraging. A lot has been written about the reasons why Apple dropped Google maps and it does make sense from a business perspective. I just wish Apple had released a more polished version. I plan to keep using it and reporting errors to Apple so that the App improves.

I never post in forums or get worked up over these seemingly trivial issues, but this new map service is just beyond comprehension.  Really?? Truly disappointing. I didn't think I would do this but I'm seriously going to take a look at the Galaxy IIIs now and I'm holding off on getting the new iPhone until I see what Apple's response is to this fiasco.

is there a way to go back to 5.1.1?

The Apple Maps are not able to find anything and the transports functionality is really important for me!

Someone knows if Google is going to release the Google Maps app?

It's like sending a car on the road with only 2 wheels ?

The political crap, your talking about is not political. It's money. And Apple is aperently not making enough.

I personally dont think it because Steve in no longer there, I saw this downwords spiral start a few years ago.

Apple is making all there OS's dummed down. The latest OS for your computer has some Facebook ingreedients, Like i dont know how to log in to Facebook. The updates are so small and unimportant, that it makes me shake my head. I love the iphone design, but it looks to me that i only get the design now.

Apple people told me that Google is making an app. that will contain advertising.

My responce was " I really don't care, as long as it works "

Perhaps there is a way to get the apps to work together. Apple maps are calling transportation App's anyway.

So it is a big leap backwords.

I can a new Android ad now:  "Buy a new Android phone.  We have Google Maps to get you where you are going whther you are driving, walking or using public transportation!  We'll never let you down.

Originally I thought the Maps criticism was just more online hysteria, but not after running the following test:

    1) I tried searching for this location: Pho Lemon, Monrovia, CA. RESULT: Maps went to 113 E. Lemon Ave., Arcadia CA. Note that Arcadia and Monrovia are several miles apart.

    2) I then tried searching for 113 E. Lemon Ave., Monrovia CA 91016. RESULT: Maps went to 113 E. Lemon Ave., Arcadia CA. In other words, even when I typed in the full address, Maps still took me to the wrong city.

Note that I tried several variations and could not get Maps to show me the correct 113 E. Lemon address in Monrovia. And in case you're wondering, 113 E. Lemon in Monrovia does appear in Maps; you just can't search for it.

Actually I think the word "inacurrate" is a bit kind here. I understand mistakes in a new mapping app and the need to go through a user-reporting phase, but I would assume a mapping app should be able to show me the correct address when I type it in. And, yes, I did report the problem via the Maps app and did leave feedback for Apple on the iPhone page.

There is no support for downgrading.
