iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

Same issue here. Ther's still a confsion if this is a hardware bug or a software bug. Check if you have a valid WiFi MAC Address under Settings > General > About > WiFi. Try doing aDFU Restore, and try to enable WiFi. If not, I would suggest you to take it to the nearest Apple Store. I have also written some of the methods to bring back WiFi. Please follow those at your own risk!

Sorry "SSDD" with the update last night. Other than the cold pack on the phone for a few minutes, I got nothing. The update rebooted the phone and return with the Wi-Fi option grayed out again. I shut down the phone, applied the ice pack and waited for a few minutes then turn on the phone. The Wi-Fi option is back but I still have problems getting a signal after the phone warms back up.

Apple wants to focus on the customer’s experience. “Magic, Unicorn and walking on water” but no here’s a big SOL and buy a new iPhone 5s response. Hey Apple how about fixing the exiting customer’s frustration.

Sorry for the rant, I’m low on sugar today.

WHERE I CAN BUY THIS CHIP????

Since there is no such thing as the wi-fi+bluetooth thing on the EBAY, there is no other way for me to buy it.

I think (JMHO) that post above is a constructive addition to that thread. Everyone can see it on page 32.

It is really of no importance if we feel it is software or hardware. Cause if it is software - Apple never guarantied it. If it is hardware, Apple replaces those under warranty - right on the spot. Problem is not everyone is covered by warranty, hence me re posting information above.

Here’s how I restored the option to use Wi-Fi without resetting your phone. Try this method at your own risk. I have a second iPhone to test with so please be careful.

1 Power off device,

2 Wrap the device in a thin towel,

3 Place the device in a freezer for 30 minutes.

4 Remove from freezer and clean off any ice buildup,

5 Attach the charger before powering up device,

6 Now power up and check to see if your wireless option is available, *FYI* after the device has powered up you will notice the battery almost completely drain, that’s ok.

7 let the device charge up to 100% and do not power off device at this point. I’ve notice restarting the device resets and gray out the Wi-Fi option.

I tried this method a few times and it worked for me. If you fear moisture could be the problem then I suggest trying the rice in a zip lock bag method. Place the device in the rice then zip the bag. Leave the device in the bag in a dry location for 2 days. This should remove the moisture from most phones but does not guarantee your phone will be fixed. There are reports of the sim card removal working for some. Others use direct heat lamp or hair dryers, please be careful using these methods which could create irreversible damage to your phone.

If you are still under warranty, walk into the Apple Store, up to the Genius Bar and tell them the problem, hand them the phone, they see its not working, check your SN#, and MAY open the back to check for water damage (they don't always), then will say "be right back", and will return with a new (or more likely, refurb) iPhone, will transfer what they can and hand you your new phone.

I bought my iPhone 4S from Paris 13 months ago and as there had been not any Apple store in Turkey and couldn't find any opportunity to go to Paris since last November (the date of the launch of IOS 6), my device was not under guaranty since last month.

Yesterday I went to an Apple Store in Bromley, London for an appointment in Genius Bar.

They did likewise as Michael said below. They said that the mentioned problem had been definitely a hardware problem.

So, I paid £ 139 in extra and they changed my device. They completely removed the installed data in my old device to send it back to China.

Do not wait uselessly and never waste your unique minute anymore.

Either you are under guaranty or not, go to an Apple store and get changed your iPhone immediately.

This is the unique solution my friends!!!
