iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

No, Apple Singapore will give you a replacement unit, and when you probe further, its a refurb set. I've had friends and family turn in their old phones before within a year and got refurbs. Then those replacements developed other problems. Hence my reluctance to go that way. But if I stick it out, I doubt this WiFI problem (and now BT won't work either so that renders my headphones useless with the iPhone) will get resolved soon. Apple doesn't seem to care. Apple care? That's an oxymoron 😉

Today I ran my 4S hot while charging via USB, and running "Whats That Phrase" for an hour or so which seems to be internet-heavy, then ran iLights for 5 mins for good measure. The phone became quite warm to the touch even through the plastic case. After a restart, both Bluetooth and WiFi came back on - albeit for a brief period. I am pretty sure this is not a hardware fault. This seems to support the hairdryer option. Next I plan to use the ice treatment on the back area below the camera (with an ice cube as opposed to putting the phone in the freezer).

I have 2 devices out of warranty that have this issue.

- Heating and freezing (both physical) do have effect on the logic board or wifi chip.

- Apple Store confirmed Hardware failure on my devices

- Local iPhone repair shop confirmed Harware failure and offered me a Logic Board Swap

- The problem is so old, that Apple would have fixed it long time ago with a software update, if they could.

This all indicates a Hardware isse. I wish it would be a Software issue, but i lost my Faith in this theory because of above reasons.

Why Tim Cook officialy apologized to China? Somebody should send him a link to this forums 😕

I completely agree on hardware being a problem and to poor guy who's warranty about to expire and he does not want to change his defective phone, I can only say "RUN FOREST, RUN!"

About that China question of yours. I actually translated apologies with Google and my impression was that most of it was "Sorry we do not explain policies enough. We are going to explain those. We are going to train employees to explain those". Not so much an apologies to my opinion, more like a statement that we didn't realize how stupid you are, we ll take our time to explain the policy. It also may be aimed as response to cultural differences.

Brought my phone to Apple store in Belfast. Was told that this issue has been highlighted and it is now at the stage where Apple are trying to decide if it is something they need to be doing something about - at least the 'genius' did not say he hadn't heard of problem.

I got my phone replaced and now have to decide if I should pay £61 for another years warranty or not??

Just hope this one continues to work.

Very similar problem. tried all usual stuff....network reset, all reset, hard-reset and restore. Nothing seem to work. Apple store and 1-800 customer service says, its out of warranty, hence too bad but can't help.

Apple store guy said that wi-fi antenna may be busted and they are aware of the problem. I wonder why no recall !!! Not at all satisfied with Apple customer service.
