iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

I confirm, it's HW... (sad, but true...) There's no way to (permantly) fix this without reflowing the WiFi chip.

I got confused at the beginning, because it often appeared after a SW upgrade, and because Apple is supposed to have said (???) that some iOS versions could cause harm to the WiFi IC... (if they said that, which I doubt meanwhile, they're probably more incompetent than in our worst nightmare... :-)

Finally found a repair shop in germany who is specialized in Logicboard stuff (small parts). He will fix my devices for 60€. He confirmed that it happens very often on the iPhone 4s and that the wifi chip looses contact to the board and needs resoldering. Good news!

I am very happy for you Placebo. Price sounds a little steep, may be try to search a little more. I mean I can see like 30 bucks. But you are talking like over $100.

BTW - I know it is a hardware, was just teasing the darkstar a bit. His foundations for threats to Apple looked so hilarious. But may be that is just cause I am very uneducated.

well, in fact, we're all so ****** off by Apple's attitude, that most of us are becoming pretty uneducated while being here...

Btw, 60€ look quite reasonable to me... Apple's only proposal up to now is the 199€ phone replacement, but like many others, I'm not willing to give Apple a single cent for fixing this issue... I could give anyone 199€ to fix this, just not to Apple !

And when we're at it, what do you mean with "his foundations for threats to Apple..." ?? My english surely isn't perfect, but that statement is definitely beyond my understanding...

let me show what I mean:

"Apple's attitude is just scandalous given the sheer number of complaints !!!"

"I've spent quite some years writing embedded software" - that one was when you were explaining to us that software is a problem...

"some usable error message and/or message in some error log"

"Wake-up Apple developers !!!"

" imagine the iPhone 4s would be the heart of a plane's flight computer !!!"

"No one would fly Apple anymore !!!!"

"Sound stupid to you ?? Don't think so... this is the kind of question any serious developer should ask to himself..." Once again you were proving software problem.

"they're wrong, so wrong they can't even imagine..."

I think those Pearls speak for themselves. BTW, I never told you to pay or not to pay. I was making suggestion to placebo, I personally would take time and look around, talk to repair guys about warranty period, before making decision to go with apple or independent. You are more then welcome to do or buy anything you d like and use it or put it inside of "heart of plane's computer." Now if you don't mind, since you made me to read it again, I am going to go fall of the chair and LMAO.

Waow !!! I'm impressed... working at Apple, huh ?? Or got paid to **** off disappointed customers ??

But you're probably right... laughing, talking (********) and looking around is surely a good method to get a BGA solder problem fixed, 'must some new american method...

I hope you didn't get hurt while falling off the chair, it's such a pleasure to hear about you, and reading your very constructive comments !

I'm starting to get sick of Apples ****! I've beent to the apple store 4 times in the last month. Now my WiFi is greyed out but it was doing just fine earlier in the day, and not to mention since upgrading to this garbage *** iOS 6 system I am now having constant call failures. I know it's not my phone because I went into apple to get a brand new 4S to see if it fixed the problem and it didn't. If anyone can tell me how to fix either one of these issues please tell me ASAP

OK this is sound very very stupid way, but it's work! I found on iPhone user website in Thailand. They turn off the phone , put iPhone in zip bag and keep them in freezer for 5 minutes.

at the beginning I really scare of losing my iPhone 4s, but after suffering from this problem for months, So I did it! and it's work!

Try it on your own risk, It's work for me.

Always elevate to a senior engineer!!! None of the troubleshooting steps worked and phone was out of warranty by 40 days. On third call to support, finally got to a senior engineer and she did a remote diagnostic that showed this occurred within minutes of the iOS update. Rather than charge me the $199 to fix the 'hardware issue' and have me flip out, she sent me the new phone at no cost.
