Q: iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

Download the latest update (.2) - it states that it may fix wifi problem.  We took ours to the Genius Bar today, and were just about ready to fork over $199 for the replacement 4s, when the guy decides to check on the lataest update.  Installed update in recovery mode, and bang, it works. Note: as of about two weeks ago, this fix did not exist.

Genius allowed that when we took the phone home (since it was wiped clean) and backed it up to a prior version that it might happen again, seemed to be that Apple isn't exactly sure what the problem is, but that it is software related. HIs point seemed to be that if the problem came back, it might also due to some corruption of data on the backup, and then he said restore with latest .2 version but proceed as a new phone.

Ned, my understanding that update is only for iphone 5 and ipad mini. Did you update iphone 4s, 4? Another part - as far as I know Apple never said it was software problem - thou in your case it was, correct?

This update is only for new devices (iphone 5, mini ipad).

There is NO fix from apple for older models, like mine, iphone 4s !!! After upgrade from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1, wifi greyed out.

Purchased new iPhone 5 at VerizonWireless today.  Got home to set stuff up and realized wifi is greyed out.  Updated to the latest software version, reset network settings, turned airplane mode on and off, did a complete restore, nothing has helped.  Genius bar appointment is on the 26th. Not taking time away from family to deal with the stupid phone.

I would probably return phone to Verizon, instead of going to Genius.

THIS WORKED ! MY FIX FOR IPHONE 4S WIFI GREYED OUT AND BATTERY DRAIN

I have been tearing my hair out, this all started about 2 weeks after installing 6.0.1.

I thought I had tried everything all the resets, wiped completey and installed as a new phone (twice). Disabled all the settings I could think of. Finally I booked an appointment with Apple Store for tomorrow.

    But then this worked-

Held the power button (on the top) down until slider came up and slid to power off. Left for 5 minuted and turned back on.

    Wifi options appeared again.

The update says it is for iPhone 5 and Mini, but guy at Genius installed it on our 4s. Wifi works perfectly . We did not install - they did it at the Store.

The whole thing is weird.  More Apple BS if you ask me.

Find the 6.0.2 update in support if you have an iPhone 5 and the wifi grayed out problem..  It's there.

Might be labeled as just for the 5 and the Mini, but The Genius put it on our 4s, or so he said.

Having same issue with my iphone 4s. I found out that the problem is is that if you do an OTA (Over the Air) update, it will cause it to crash like that. Meaning if you updated directly from your phone instead of itunes. Apple needs to fix it cause it is ******* me off and many others. I used to always do OTA updates but this one didnt work I guess. The only option I found to fix it was to take it into the store, or downgrade to 5.1.1. Let me know if taking to store helps cause im in Italy right now for vacation and i cant use my wifi on my phone.
