Home sharing not working in iOS 6

Using ipad 3. I've tried everything including rebooting and resetting my settings and Apple ID. Cannot get it to work, it recognizes that a home shared library is available but will not download it, get "cannot turn on home sharing" in music and just stalls with a 2/3 shadowed circle in videos. Yet, all works fine on the iPhone 4's, iPad 2 and iPad 1 on same wifi network.

I've had no problem to my knowledge with wifi.

There are a few other issues too, but I'm hoping Apple will have a quick solution for all???

I just tried the home sharing signout/signin. Rebooted my iPhone 4 and am hopeful. I launched the Music app and saw iCloud material with correct artwork. I am now loading the iTunes Library on my Macbook Pro and hope this will prove successful. I'm wondering if there is some hook-in to iCloud involved with the sharing issues. I say this because some of my albums showed the correct artist and songs but with a different cover by the same artist. In all cases, the incorrect album art is not in my iTunes Library. Usually I don't even have the album that the incorrect artwork comes from.

Food for thought. . .

Please use the iTunes feedback page and send your issues to Apple. I will definitely swing by my local Apple store, maybe with a Genius appointment, just so the issues is definitely noted. Of course, I will be incredibly polite. The staff and Geniuses didn't create this problem.

Hi All,

I think I may have made a bit of progress last night

Please allow me a quick review...

Following iOS 6 upgrade on iPad 2 home sharing features lost on iPad 2.

(I was unable to see any "shared" movies and only able to see about 60 songs)

Home sharing continued to work normally on iPad (original)

(this led me to believe problem was with iOS 6 vice iTunes 10.7)

Previously, home sharing worked great throughout my home network:

Win XP, Win 7, Apple TV (Two - 2nd Gen), iPad (original), and iPad 2

Break break

After installing iTunes 10.7 on daughter's Win 7 box that is NOT in home sharing

I was unable to play any movies.

Trouble shooting:

Step 1. Uninstall iTunes 10.7

Step 2. Restart Win 7 box

Step 2. Restore previous version "iTunes Library.itl"

Step 3. Reinstall iTunes 10.6.3 (yes, I archive each version of iTunes because I've had to do this before)

Step 4. Restart iTunes 10.6.3

Step 5. Play Movie in iTunes

Step 6. Smile

Break break

I performed the same "rollback and reinstallation" of iTunes 10.6.3 on the Win7 box that IS my primary HOME SHARING host.

Home sharing works normally on iPad (original) and iPad 2

( I am able to view and play full movie and songs libraries on both iPads)

Also, I am able to do airplay from both iPads to both Apple TV (2nd Gen).

I'm not saying that I've discovered the problem...I'm still not sure what is what.

That said, I'm less convinved this problem is an iOS 6 problem and

more convinced this may be an iTunes 10.7 problem.

A problem with iTunes upgrade is more consistent with past problems I've experience.

I think I may have been thrown off track while troubleshooting because this was sort of the

"perfect storm" of Apple upgrades at about the same time:

1. iTunes 10.7

2. iOS 6

3. Apple TV iOS 5.1

For now, I am happy to sit back and use my restored home sharing and wait for Apple to sort this out.

I am inclined to agree. I think ios 6 paired with 10.7 causes issues. But my original iPad on 5.1.1 shares just fine with 10.7. On mine the home share often stops on half circle and quitting the music app and trying again then tends to allow it work. Then I see missing artists etc. logging out of home sharing on the devices and going back in then makes it work more or less perfect with correct art and artists etc. trouble is next day I will try it again and back to same issues so its only a temp fix. I think both iTunes and ios are to blame. It's really annoying because ios 6 feels like a backward step rather than upgrade.

I can only imagine the horrors and bugs that await us when iTunes 11 is thrust upon us. It'll pron fix some things and break others!

This signin/out did not work for me, either. My iTunes Cloud matches showed up, complete artwork and everything (small improvement). Trying to use home sharing from my MBP iTunes Library was the same disaster as before. I think even some of the incorrect artwork stays the same, amazingly. This is a HUGE bug, a fatal flaw IMHO. I am looking into downgrading my iOS to 5.1.1, or whatever was the last version. I don't see much improvement in iOS 6, just change for change's sake. SHAME, Apple! 😟

scopeguy45, you wrote the following in another thread:

"Once I restart iTunes, it takes a while to load my video library, but eventually the circle of doom does fill in and my video library will load. I only keep 30-50 videos in it at a time. Interesting problem though occurs (I have also given this to the Advisor); though videos play, after watching say a movie for over 15-20 minutes, I cannot get the iPad to pause or display the controls ... The movie will continue to play and I can hear the audio over my Bluetooth earphones after I close the app with my finger gestures. Only way to get it to stop including the arrow display in upper right and corner is to close the video app in the multi task bar, reopen the video app(displays dark grey) and then close by using home button, still plays audio until I close it in multitask area second time! Weird, huh?"

I have the exact same issue, except with an iPad2. Controls just vanish -- had no issues with ATV2. Everything is updated to the latest and greatest version. Apple has really screwed this up royally. I have an appointment with support in the morning, we'll see if they give me the same run around you have gotten.
