Hi All,
I think I may have made a bit of progress last night
Please allow me a quick review...
Following iOS 6 upgrade on iPad 2 home sharing features lost on iPad 2.
(I was unable to see any "shared" movies and only able to see about 60 songs)
Home sharing continued to work normally on iPad (original)
(this led me to believe problem was with iOS 6 vice iTunes 10.7)
Previously, home sharing worked great throughout my home network:
Win XP, Win 7, Apple TV (Two - 2nd Gen), iPad (original), and iPad 2
Break break
After installing iTunes 10.7 on daughter's Win 7 box that is NOT in home sharing
I was unable to play any movies.
Trouble shooting:
Step 1. Uninstall iTunes 10.7
Step 2. Restart Win 7 box
Step 2. Restore previous version "iTunes Library.itl"
Step 3. Reinstall iTunes 10.6.3 (yes, I archive each version of iTunes because I've had to do this before)
Step 4. Restart iTunes 10.6.3
Step 5. Play Movie in iTunes
Step 6. Smile
Break break
I performed the same "rollback and reinstallation" of iTunes 10.6.3 on the Win7 box that IS my primary HOME SHARING host.
Home sharing works normally on iPad (original) and iPad 2
( I am able to view and play full movie and songs libraries on both iPads)
Also, I am able to do airplay from both iPads to both Apple TV (2nd Gen).
I'm not saying that I've discovered the problem...I'm still not sure what is what.
That said, I'm less convinved this problem is an iOS 6 problem and
more convinced this may be an iTunes 10.7 problem.
A problem with iTunes upgrade is more consistent with past problems I've experience.
I think I may have been thrown off track while troubleshooting because this was sort of the
"perfect storm" of Apple upgrades at about the same time:
1. iTunes 10.7
2. iOS 6
3. Apple TV iOS 5.1
For now, I am happy to sit back and use my restored home sharing and wait for Apple to sort this out.
