bluetooth music issues after iOS6 update

Ok, i just updated to iOS6 today. I jump in my car to drive home, and now my radio ( pioneer svh-p3400BH) no longer shows any sont info when bluetooth streaming. I used to get artist, album, and song info. Also, when i connect it via USB, i no longer get genra infr ( pop/rock, classical, ect).

Any ideas? if this a firmware on Pioneers side, or is the blue tooth messed up in iOS6?

Actually there is a way to revert back, it is use very often by those who jailbreak their phones, so Apple does not recommend or even support it. I think the program is called tiny umbrella. The downfall of this is you had to expect this and create a "backup" of the software on your phone, if you did not create it before hand there is no reverting back, at least that I know of, I tried about 2 years ago and could not.

Deepcover,

I couldn't find anything in the manual or on the US Pioneer site about actually updating so I doubt it's going to happen and I've really never heard of headunits getting updated unless it had a Nav section... But yeah USB and load it up. We'll see, hopefully the next big iOS 6 update comes soon but I think it'll be after the new year

I've seen reports with Ford Sync both "working" and "not working" and part of the problem is what does "working" actually mean? Some people don't even know they can metadata out of the device so to them "working" may just mean the headset pairs, streams, and has playback controls. We've already seen in this thread where all kinds of bluetooth issues (and non-issues) have been posted, some of which are on topic and some that aren't. CWHOTH I too would like some clarification on the nature of the issues you've experienced.

For example, if you are experiencing issues with your bluetooth pairing, handsfree, etc--the main bread and butter--then Apple trying to troubleshoot makes sense because for most people (I think), basic functionality (calls, music streaming) *should* work. If they are troubleshooting the metadata issue, then that would be in direct contradiction to their issued statements regarding that capability being a stereo manufacturer problem.

For the sake of all of us, I hope your comments are regarding metadata because I sure as heck don't think I have a prayer of seeing an update from my car stereo manufacturer.

I've read through all the posts in this thread and haven't seen any reasonable responses as to how multiple devices that worked before iOS 6 but now don't isn't the fault of Apple. It's not about a need to blame Apple. It's about a need for all our expensive electronic devices to work. I have about 10 bluetooth devices including Beats wireless headphones, Beats pill, Jambox, seveal bluetooth dongles and a Bose Soundlink. The only device that now works is the Bose. I love Apple products. I like the way iTunes works seamlessly with my phone and tablets and I can play music and videos wherever I go. I can't do that anymore and I'm frustrated that company image is more important than admitting you didn't do your homework before you released an update. I can't get the manufacturers of 10 different products to change their software to work with my iPhone so Apple needs to man up, admit the problem and fix it.

Hi linkovich. Nobody here is claiming they know it all, we are just trying to help each other out. For a standard to be backward-compatible, both sides of the connection have to be compliant to the standard. All car stereos didn't break with the update, only certain ones. When I "Googled" for devices with AVRCP 1.4 on Android (Jelly Bean), I see many bluetooth problems being posted on forums. It is unclear if those are due to user-error or not. I would love to try and borrow a coworker's Android Phone to test it out on my Pioneer car stereo. However, I don't know anyone with a new RAZR MAXX with Jelly Bean. I cannot find another Android device that supports 1.4 that doesn't have to be loaded with a custom ROM. If you know of any or have any proof that the newest RAZR MAXX works with any of the listed stereos, would you please post it?

Does it fix fhe problem with track/artist names being streamed to the headset ??? I updated my DEH-8400BT and I can change tracks etc via the head unit but no track or artist data :-(

No. I have the same unit and it does not allow this to happen. If you want metadata information, use USB. As per Pioneer specification page:

http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/121/61/DEH-8400BT/specs.html

You are able to use the audio streaming and handsfree telephony at the same time, although audio streaming functionalities have no display capabilities.

I'm from Italy, I own an AVH-2400BT and yesterday I did the bluetooth update following step-by-step all the procedure from Pioneer official site. At the end, instead of giving me a "Completed" message, the units gave me a "Error" message and now I'm in same situation of bayancwtrfl. The bluetooth module of AVH-2400BT is completely gone and I wasn't able to find a way to switch it back on...All the icons from bluetooth module are greyed out and is not possibile to repeat the procedure from the beginning. Now, if I try to access to Bluetooth Audio or Phone Menu, the unit gave me the message "ERROR-10", that in unit's user manual refers to a possibile alimentation problem of bluetooth module. The Pioneer customer care said me that probably I need to take out the unit from the car and send it to them for assistance...I'm very angry with that!

I'm sure to have followed exactly all the step in the official procedure, so I think this upgrade may be potentially dangerous.

If you have any suggestion, please help me...

Thanks in advance for you attention.

Sorry, you won't convince me Apple didn't cause the problem, just read the THOUSANDS of forums posts across a wide variety of third party devices affected by the change. Something was changed post-IOS6 beta testing. This compatibility issue would have MOST CERTAINLY been discovered amongst the conucopia of beta testers and their various devices.

Regarding the statement re: "One of the big advantages of BT 4 is lower power consumption" - Many, many users (including me) reported dramatic battery drain issues after upgrading to IOS6. I know this can be blamed on a lot of things (and has), but it's NOTABLE. I've also noticed significant loss of range under the new Apple Bluetooth, even with devices that still work the same as they did under IOS5.

In any event, Apple never properly acknowledged the issue to their customers' satisfaction.

My post was intended to help any Pioneer users with their updates, should they decide to try.

That's my 2 cents, please keep the change. :-)

So just to bring everyone up to speed so they don't have to go through hundreds of replys, the issue is that when Apple released the IOS 6 they built the bluetooth to be 4.0 compliant, however they did not build it backwards compatable, so any device that is not 4.0 compatible is subjetc to expeprience any number of problems. This is not just iPhone 5 it covers the 3/4 series as well.

This is patently incorrect.

The appropriate protocols are inherently backwards-compliant.

It's just that various head-end manufacturers didn't follow the standards properly.

I didn't think it was possible to go back. I had to take my 4S back to the Apple Store and practically demand a replacement as they said you can't go back. They did replace the handset as it had 2 weeks left of the warrantee. Mine is still on 5.1.1 since then and I will not be upgrading until Alpine get it sorted and people have tested it. -_-
