bluetooth music issues after iOS6 update

Ok, i just updated to iOS6 today. I jump in my car to drive home, and now my radio ( pioneer svh-p3400BH) no longer shows any sont info when bluetooth streaming. I used to get artist, album, and song info. Also, when i connect it via USB, i no longer get genra infr ( pop/rock, classical, ect).

Any ideas? if this a firmware on Pioneers side, or is the blue tooth messed up in iOS6?

When the bluetooth options in system are grayed out, that is saying it is in use, disconnect your devices and turn off your sources, wait a second then go into system and try again, if that did not work press home then try to go into system again, sometimes you can be too quick.

For the insufficient resources, that sounds like that might be something happening on your computer, if so, try restarting and attempting again. If it is saying that on your head unit, then I have no idea what that means.

My AVH 2400BT is working again. The updating was fairly simple, though I did get hung up on the "updating" phase the first time. I waited about 30 minutes and then terminated the process and started over. The second time it took about 3-4 minutes from the time that I started the update on the unit. Good to have things working again.

Updating via bluetooth has to be the most antiquated nightmarish PITA way of having to do this tweak. A dat file for USB, a file burned to a cd, anything but using a system that is open to so many variables like Bluetooth. It took me multiple attempts via different Bluetooth options including 2 pcs with heir own Bluetooth and a Bluetooth dongle. For me it worked eventually, but looked like it was in he process of failing when it finally hooked in and finished despite saying transfer failed.

It's a minor complaint about the way he firmware has to be updated rather than the actual firmware.

I am just glad to have steering wheel controls back.

Ooh, before I forget. Apple broke it. It worked before he ios6 requirement. So regardless of where the glitch in backwards compatablity was, apples update exposed it and yes, it broke it for many users. So apple broke it. It may have been inherently defective (but working) on iOS 5, but apples update created the problem people are suffering here. So the apple fan boys and those intent on saying the blame is related to 3rd part coding, take heed, it worked fine UNTIL iOS 6. ergo iOS 6 made things stop working, which leads to the obvious statement that apple broke it.

If we really must put up with harping on, can we just say that the issue COULD have been rectified by apple letting users choose from Bluetooth versions rather than forcing the new version on users? Not rocket science. Instead we were faced with a wall of silence from apple. Some users could perhaps have gone back to ios 5x if they were quick enough. Others like me who bought an iPhone 5 were stuck with waiting for pioneer to sort it out.

I lost a lot of respect for apple over this whole issue. I doubt I am alone in that viewpoint.

I am happy that you finally got your issue sorted but your reasoning is flawed.

Using your logic...

Android broke it too. Since their phones with the latest bluetooh software didn't work with many audio head units.

Apple should never update their software ever. We should all be running IOS 1 with no apps and no support for audio head units at all. Maybe they should never make new products either because doing so might reveal problems with other manufacturer's equipment. Maybe all manufacturers should stop making new stuff, no new cars, TVs and refridgerators because they might do something that doesn't work with the things that their customers have previously come to use.

It is not a manufacturer's responsibility to make sure that the things they make will work with every other manufacturer's things. This is what protocols are for. If I follow the protocol correctly and others do as well then it all works. If I misinterpret the protocol or just cut corners and it stops being compatible then I have to fix it not the other manufacturers. The simple fact that an update from Pioneer fixed the problem shows that they made the mistakes not Apple.

I work for a developer that wrote the firmware for someone else. The code that we had used had issues with the new software. Fortunately, we found the problems before our customers because we tested with the pre-release developer versions. We were able to fix the issue and put out the update before Apple released IOS 6. This is what the other manufacturers should have done.

If you feel so strongly about this you should have returned your iPhone and used your previous phone. I'm guessing that one was an iPhone as well.

It is the same on my 4400bh, I don't know how it was before the update. However, I know that the pandora option is always disabled when there is no phone connected through USB. I would really like the full pandora experince through bluetooth, but since I have to have it plugged in, I decided to do my daily charging in the car, my commute is about an hour, so it is fully charged or at least the high 90%.

Update - thanks to @skerrb (above).

To refresh - I am in UK, have Mac and iPhone, and an Alpine CDE-W235BT.

I've successfully updated firmware using my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, which took me about 30mins of trying!

You seem to have to do it in a precise order, namely:

1. Follow the advice from @skerrb / Alpine to begin with.

(However after pairing, I got 'Connected' confirmation on Head Unit unlike @skerrb)

2. You need to follow the instructions in the Alpine Update PDF on page 11 (4.In case of problems) - basically disconnect the bluetooth connection > then go to FW Update on Head Unit and select YES > then when Head Unit says WAITING you reconnect through the bluetooth menu on Mac by selecting Browse Device > then drag the PLF update file into the Update folder.. Voila!

I believe if you don't do these bluetooth processes in the correct order, be it updating or even something simple like pairing, they seem very fragile and usually won't work. Good luck!

Feb 10, 2013 8:15 AM in response to YjeRoel

Ditto for me (Re: @YjeRoel's experience). I first tried @skerrb's instructions. Long story short, the file would transfer, but the (CDE-HD137BT) head unit never progressed beyond "FIRMWARE UPDATE DON'T TOUCH ANY BUTTONS." I tried both the first suggested and then the alternate suggested firmware update approach (i.e. similar to what @andywhittingham used). No luck. This took about an hour. Then, I went over and borrowed a friend's Window's 7 Lenovo w. Bluetooth. The instructions worked fine up until page 9. For some reason my Alpine unit wouldn't allow the computer to see its folders. Nothing I did helped me resolve this (including restarting the computer, deleting and then repairing the computer, etc.). I'm at a deadend here because I just can't seem to get the unit to install the .plf file. My last two attempts will be to (1) unplug my car battery so I can get the Alpine unit to restore to total factory settings, and (2) then try and use either another Windows laptop (and then my Mac again) for the install. This is all very frustrating. The irony (correct use of "irony?") doesn't escape me that Alpine is dictating predominately Mac users to use a PC to update their car stereo so their iPhones will again work (after Apple pushed out an OS update that basically broke Alpine's BT functionality). If this isn't sad humor I don't know what is.

If those last two steps don't work, I am going to call Crutchfield (from whom I got the Alpine unit) and ask if they can help me.

Finally, it occurs to me that it might matter what kind of Mac one is using when trying to perform this update. For the record, I am using a 13 in. Mid-2010 Macbook (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OS X 10.8.2 (12C60).

Hallo,

Does anybody have any information about the Clarion NX501E and IOS6?

My unit is playing music but no metadata is visible via Bluetooth.

I also do not know if metadata was working with IOS 4 or 5.

I send several mails to Calrion but they always reply:

The latest Bluetooth update for NX501E is available on our website, link

below, and is compatible with the latest iPhone software level.

http://www.clarion.com/gb/en/support/software/NX501E/index.html

I tried this software but no metadata.

I successfully used a mid 2011 Macbook Pro i5 to update my Alpine cde-137bt. It took about an hour, most of which consisted of me trying to connect to the stereo. I kept pairing, unpairing and resetting the deck until if finally connected on the stereo side. I then just dragged the file into the folder and like skerrb said, the unit disconnected from bluetooth immediately after the file transferred. About a minute and a half later it said that the undate was complete.

It seems that it just takes persistance, as the results vary considerably.

Feb 21, 2013 6:29 AM in response to Mr Bugg

Mr Bugg, call Alpine support again. The "code 0000" means your firmware is too old to accept this latest firmware update. The Alpine tech you speak to should either offer to send you a replacement (less likely) OR offer to have you send in your unit to be updated in-house (more likely). If you are not offered one of these options, demand to speak to their supervisor. Don't hang up until you are offered one of these two options. I know people who have been offered both options... depends on the tech you get, I suppose.

After calling Alpine about the 0000 problem and getting an updated unit for free, it works better than new. With the iphone in my pocket, even if the itunes app hasn't been activated, it starts playing. It displays albums, songs, and artists as before, and controls the phone from the head unit as before. Previously, I had to start itunes on the phone for it to start playing.

It took a while, but Alpine finally came through.
