iOS 6 breaks MMS

This is the way it is with unlocked phones. I have to do the same thing to switch bewtwwen AT&T and T-Mobile sims. I had to mod my phone to remove the T=Mobile carrier update whenever I want to use the AT&T sim. If I don't do this, my battery drops 1% every few minutes.

I guess I'll be stuck with no mms for the moment, then...

If there is one thing today have taught me - most people seem to think it is apple's fault the problem with the iphone and data/mms is occouring.

Well, after today I can say with confidence that it is indeed the carriers that have spesified the limitations. Apple didn't mind the ANP solution. So now it is to hope they'll endorce the fix for mms as well. the guy from unlockit.co.nz is trying to get it to work, but so far say that one have to go with the t-mobile solution, which is utter rediculous. Because if it was this easy, then the settingsfor both data and mms would work in my phone already as I have previously used a simcard that allowed access to these settings (norwegian telenor)..

We do have a lot more carrier choices now in the US but I agree, it is the three main carriers that dictate what we can and can't do with our phones.Usually there are ways around them (unlockit) is one and that other modification that Apple does not want users to do but all we want to do is use our phones the way we want.

GOOD NEWS, everyone! As of one hour ago, the option to send/receive MMS messages on iOS 6 has been restored! No need to unlock your phone or buy a T-Mobile SIM card! Finally, after 9 months, it's back! I'm using a prepaid iPhone 4 on an AT&T GoPhone plan. I can't guarantee this with other carriers as I just found out an hour ago.

The way I found out was when a friend of mine sent me a message containing a picture. I thought it was weird that she was able to send me a picture because she doesn't have an iPhone or any other type of iOS device, and the only time I could ever receive MMS messages was when I was connected to Wi-Fi, which I was not. I had almost full bars of 3G, and voila - the option is back!

I sent a test picture message to myself and thought it was odd that I sent and received it using iMessage. I then sent what I thought would be a text message to a few of my other iPhone friends, and what do you know, they also sent as iMessages! I could ONLY do this using Wi-Fi before. Neither of us had a Wi-Fi connection, so I suspect the option is fully restored! No more switching between green and blue bubbles when sending text messages!

I can't figure out what the fix may have been and why it took so long. My guess would be that AT&T has "officially" started supporting the use of iPhones on their prepaid plans. I think AT&T and a few other carriers killed this option during the iOS 6 development. Whatever the case is, it's fixed and that's all that matters.

You probably got the same carrier update about a week to 10 days ago, others got. I know I did, and after that update was installed, the mms works just fine. Before, It wasn't even possible for me to send mms messages even if I was on a wifi network..

I guess AT&T finally figured out it would be a great idea to actually let people use their phones in any way it was intended to be used, including send and receive mms :-)

Or maybe Apple figured it was time to tell them that people have been complaining. After all, it's not Apple who put the limitation on the use.

The odd part is that most people just accept it when their carrier right out lie to them and tell them it's Apple who don't want this to work...
