How to change email address to iPhone number on imessage (mountain lion)

My appologies if this has been asked before but seeing how I am still searching for an answer maybe you can help. Long story short. How can I associate my iPhone telephone number INSTEAD of my apple id email address while using imessage? Ex. When I currently message someone from my mac they have no idea who I am and are greeted with my personal email address. How can I change it so they see my phone number and thus my contact name instead? Thank you in advance for everyones contribution. Have a great day!
