iOS 6 problems on iPod touch 4Gen

This message is addressed to Apple Support and it's users.

Yesterday I restored(as new) my iPod to the new iOS firmware. Unfortunately, there are a number of problems: high level of performance degradation - a main problem; AppStore and Maps loading very slow; crashing of games, Safari and other problems. You can complete this list too. Write your problems in this topic and i hope, that Apple will answer us by releasing iOS 6.0.1 with fixed bugs.

Thanks for support!

Personally, I think iOS 6 ruined the iPod Touch 4G. My 32 GB never ran slower. Now it lags big time. I had to uninstall dozens of apps that did never caused any performance issues since owning the Touch for over 2.5 years. My Touch was always snappy, until updating to iOS 6.

Since my Touch is now effectively ruined, I downloaded 6.01 knowing very well I had nothing to lose. I read that it made the iPhone 5 a bit faster. Any way, not only does 6.01 take up more storage it also quasi froze after updating when I tried to delete an app. In this case, I had dancing icons but everything else was frozen. I had to do a hard restart.

I wouldn't expect any support from Apple any more on the iPod Touch 4. If you're so inclined, you may wish to consider selling it so as not to deal with headaches iOS 6 has or will cause you.

I am also curious about upgrading iOS from 6.0.1 to 6.1 on my iPod Touch 4th Generation. I bought this iPod Touch with iOS 6.0.0 installed and it worked fine (was much faster than my previous iPod Touch 2nd Generation). But since updating to iOS 6.0.1, I have problems with backing up. Syncing works fine, but back ups fail (though today I did do a successful back up by turning on "Encrypt local backup").

I have been afraid of upgrading to iOS 6.1.

A further complication in my case is that I still use a PowerMac PPC G5 running MacOS 10.5.8, and I use iTunes 10.6.3 (last versions that will run on this Mac). Supposedly I should not even be able to use iOS 6 at all, but it has worked so far. I am just afraid that one of these updates (e.g., iOS 6.1) will be too far, and the iPod will no longer sync.

I updated my iPod to ios6 yesterday and it took nearly 2hours to load but when it finally loaded a bar came on the screen with the apple sign so I just waited for that to load but when it had loaded my iPod started going crazy(it started to restart then it goes bright then goes dark then the apple sign comes on goes bright goes dark etc

I don't know what to do getting really annoyed with apple/my iPod and iOS6

If anyone can tell me what to do I would really appreciate it.

Hi Rugby dude,

My itunes still says 'waiting for ipod. The logo is there with an empty bar. It seems to take forever. How long did it take for your's to be restored?

I used redsn0w to verify the error and it seems it is 'waiting for NAND'. Then I closed did the three steps I described before, got the USB-itunes image and tried again to restore.

Mine is now 2 hours connected again with the same issue.

Hey guys,

Have you tried resetting your device by holding both the power and the home buttons down for 10 seconds until it reboots?

If that does not work try putting the device into DFU mode by connecting the device to iTunes and holding the home and power buttons down for 10 seconds and release the power button but keep the home button pressed. iTunes should then prompt you to restore.

Done all of that Lt. Levithan.

I saw a youtube clip of somebody showing his iDevice was in recovery mode, connected it to itunes, it was installing for 34 days! I don't know if this is possible, but the tricks with DFU mode etc. don't work.

It 'hangs' at 'waiting on ipod' according to itunes and 'waiting for NAND' in case you do a clean recovery in Redsn0w.

I leave it connected for the next decade 😁 and then see what happens....

Well perhaps if you drain your battery down to almost nothing, and then charge it up for about an hour or two and try again.

If those procedures don't work I don't know what will. It sounds like your device is not in good shape.

Maybe the Apple Genius Bar will help?

I hope you find a way out of this one. And if you do, and its a somewhat simple technique, I'd like to hear how if you don't mind.

Just adding my voice. I am having the same problems with extreme unresponsiveness with almost every aspect of the iPod, actually even worse with the 6.1.2 "fix." Don't appreciate being stuck out in the cold trying for 5 mins to do a 10 second map check to find a location. Quicker to not use the iPod and just find a real map in a physical bookstore. Very very disappointing. Unable to play most games anymore too. iPad having most of the same problems.

I was at an Apple retail store last week and noticed the ipod touch 4g's on display were running ios 6, and rather smoothly. I brought up the problems we're all experiencing to an employee and asked if the models on display were newer and different. He said they might be using a different kind of RAM (?) but they're technically the same product. He followed that up with the assurance that if the product won't work, they will swap it out for a new one. This was exactly what I was hoping to hear. If your device has been bricked, near-bricked, or is virtually unusable, take it to the nearest Apple store and have a "genius" look at it. When they see how poorly it performs, they will offer to replace it with one which was manufactured more recently. Hope this helps some folks!

I actually ran into this problem with my Ipod touch 2g. i had an ipod 2g and had upgrading the the ipoud 4g. so naturally, i would upgrade my apps and such when i noticed an update. never really thought anything of it, but then my brother came across an ipod touch 2g and i tried to sync my apps to it. apps i remember working when i had an ipd 2g. well, hardly any of them took anymore. even netflix can no longer be used on the old ipod. i remember it used to work, i had it. another funny thing is that i had 2 versions of temple run. one that worked for the ipod 2g, (an older version) and then one that said i needed ios5. so i was lucky to have an old version that worked. it it plays fine, so i dint understand why all of a sudden you need iso5. so, if you have 2 ipods, a new one and older one, the new one canibalizes the old one. basically crippling it. by updating the apps, you make your old device less and less useable. i wish i new that so i could have kept the old versions of that apps that did work on it.
