iOS 6 problems on iPod touch 4Gen

This message is addressed to Apple Support and it's users.

Yesterday I restored(as new) my iPod to the new iOS firmware. Unfortunately, there are a number of problems: high level of performance degradation - a main problem; AppStore and Maps loading very slow; crashing of games, Safari and other problems. You can complete this list too. Write your problems in this topic and i hope, that Apple will answer us by releasing iOS 6.0.1 with fixed bugs.

Thanks for support!

Since upgrading to IOS 6.0.1 my IPod touch 4th gen won't turn off, restarting itself and drains the battery... When I recharge it and restart, it will lag key input, and run so slowly that it appears to temporarily freeze. I seem to have lost all my music and sound output has been shut down as well, with no key clicks, or camera shutter sound as well. Will there be a patch that addresses these problems?

So how long has ios 6 been out now with no upadate to fix horrible performance on ipod 4G. And no confirmation from apple at all regarding these issues. Just frustrated with this thing constantly crashing with ios 6. ios 5 was fine so apple seriously screwed us. Just frustrated cause safari just crashed on me like 10 times. just using zoom crashes safari on 4G ipod with ios 6. I would love apple to have to show how great thier products are to people by using 4G ipod with ios 6. They would be sooooooooo embarrassed.

Ronal7230,

Please give me all the details you can about your problem. What do you mean it won't play them? What does it do when you tap play? And are you able to connect to wifi? How do you know that it is not getting Internet?

Please give me as much information as you can about the issues. I need to know what happens when you try to use one of these features that won't work.

Also, what iOS version are you running?

I will try to help you out.

I would also like to formally complain about IOS 6 on the iPod tough 4th gen. Today I just gave my daughter a brand new straight out of the box, iPod 4th Gen running ios for her birthday and found it to be really slow.

I have my own one that isn't on iOS 6 to compare against and now how quick and responsive mine is.

On the new ipod 4th gen, Games such as temple run were so noticeably jittery that they were in my opinion actually unplayable. She came to me to complain about it. Transferring between apps was also slow and unresponsive, to the point I would say the device is seriously faulty and unfit for sale. I had to contain my anger as to not ruin her birthday, and if i didn't think it would now break her heart I would take it back off her to return it.

So thanks apple for allowing retailers to sell a product that is unfit for purpose. Where can I get a downgrade to iOS 5?

Your story makes me angry for you! It's pretty ridiculous that Apple hasn't done anything to address this issue or even acknowledge it. They never should have made ios6 available for 4th gen devices.

I'm lucky in that I was able to restore my ipod back to ios5.1.1, but I read that after the first week or two, Apple stopped allowing it.

My hope for you and your daughter is that you can take the ipod to an Apple store, and perhaps one of their "geniuses" can restore the device to 5.1.1, or simply give you a 5th gen ipod as an equal exchange. Apple should be ashamed and embarrassed of this whole mess, even moreso than the highly publicized maps fiasco. I don't sense a bit of remorse, however.

Out of curiosity, was ios6 pre-loaded on the ipod out of the box, or was it installed upon setup of the device?

Good luck!

Espengler1,

I am sorry you are in this situation. I know how you feel, I too am a victim of iOS 6.

Unfortunately complaining here will not help because we are not Apple, we are fellow users.

If you want to complain or submit issues to Apple, you can do so here:

As for downgrading, Apple has made sure that if you upgrade to their new iOS you cannot get back if your not happy with it.

If you Google "how to downgrade ipod touch to ios 5" you might find some steps that show the only way to get it back which is kind of advanced. I can't say how well it would work. It seems kind of "messy"

If somehow you did get back to iOS 5 it may not be for long because apps will probably soon stop supporting your iOS and who knows what else Apple might pull on its paying customers. It just doesn't feel secure anymore.

If the iPod Touch is still new and there is still a warranty or something on it, I might suggest that you return it (if they let you) and get a refund, and consider getting a Samsung Galaxy Player. I believe it might work better for you, and you might just be happier with it. From what I've seen so far Google doesn't generally push its users past their device's limits and then force them to stay there. It may just be better overall.

If you are stuck with the iPod Touch 4 Generation on iOS 6, there is a way I have found that may make things a little better. When the device has a little glitch, problem, or is very slow when in an app, replay the issue so that it is currently happening. (e.g. launch "Temple Run" and get to where it is really slow) and do a reset.

To reset your iPod hold the home button and the power button down for 10 seconds until the device shuts off. The device will restart, and no data is erased.

The idea is to force the iPod to reset while the problem is currently happening. Oddly enough, this technique seems to fix minor issues. Go ahead and try it on issues that you find, there is no guarantee as to whether it will work or not, but it's worth a shot.

Beyond that there isn't much that we can do about it. I'm sorry.

If you have any other questions let us know.

Thanks Lt. This was the main discussion that showed but I will contact

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html

I did some other recommendations such as closing all open apps, disablign location services etc but will also try the reset.

The main thing was that is was brand new, out of the box preinstalled with the latest IOS update and it was noticeably slower and jittery than my older 4th Gen. I will keep an eye on it over the next week and if it doesn't improve I'm taking it back.

Just so you know you are more than likely not going to get any kind of response from that feedback page, but it allows you to give them more of an idea if they don't already have one.

If you do that reset technique it may speed up a little and crash less, but I don't think you can count on things getting "better" (not to get you down or to be negative). My main problem is that the battery has gotten extremely horrible and is getting worse. This is all completely do to iOS 6, and I can say that with uttermost certainty. The only problems I had before iOS 6 was the same old regular Apple restrictions, but now it has problems in my face to the point where my device has became less reliable. I looked forward to iOS 6.0.1 but it was for naught; the update either did nothing, or just made things worse. It varies from person to person. And I am starting to think iOS 6.0.1 is where they are stopping and completely abandoning "older" generations.

I do hate the thought of returning or taking away a gift you have just given to your daughter, but getting a refund might be the only way to get the best out of the money and something that works (unless of course the iPod works for you how it is).

Maybe you should look around a little and see what works better for you.

Here you can compare some of the general differences between products:

Normally the iPod Touch 4th Generation would be a great choice and would work just fine, but after iOS 6 came out, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

I hope you get things worked out.

Yesterday my partner bought me a new 32g iPod 4th Generation to replace my original 8g model. I have to say that whilst the new one has more space it crashes more and the battery life seems nowhere near as good. Maybe it didn't charge on my dock last night but I will be taking note of battery level in the morning and see how it goes from there. Some of the App Store items are particularly annoying in that they crash before you have a chance to do anything with them. The main difference between the two is that the new one is running OS 6 whereas my older one was running an older version - can't remember which one I just know that I was unable to update to 5.1 as I did not have enough storage space.

Anyone had any luck resolving these issues?

Wanted to purchase a video on iTunes. So I do a search and it is so incredibly slow and laggy crashed 3 times. Then I figured I would post on this forum out of frustration. I know this is only a user forum but at least it's out in public and makes me feel better. Safari crashed twice. Wow. iOS 5 performed 1000x better. Forget the 200 new features of iOS 6 when performance is this bad. I used to play some pretty CPU intensive games on iOS 5. Never restart/reset etc ios 5 with 0 problems. Forget even playing the simplest games on iOS 6 without glitches and horrible performance. I have everything you can possibly turn off turned off, run only one app at a time and baby this thing like I'm running a Windows xp machine from 2000. Garbage! Is this what we can expect from apple? I seriously hope not cause I really was happy before!
