iOS 6 problems on iPod touch 4Gen

This message is addressed to Apple Support and it's users.

Yesterday I restored(as new) my iPod to the new iOS firmware. Unfortunately, there are a number of problems: high level of performance degradation - a main problem; AppStore and Maps loading very slow; crashing of games, Safari and other problems. You can complete this list too. Write your problems in this topic and i hope, that Apple will answer us by releasing iOS 6.0.1 with fixed bugs.

Thanks for support!

I've recently restored my Itouch 4th Gen so that I could be able to update to the "latest" software (6.01). I've lost my music, my movies, and my apps. I've been meaning to sync my music library since then, but when I tried, the music and movies won't sync. The only thing that was able to sync were my e-books. I've tried searching the net for answers, but I found nothing. It seems to me that the problem is the software not my Itouch. (Well, I hope so.) If it's the software, please please please do release a patch AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Thank you very much! 🙂

Now that I've been using ios6 for a while I can say I'm far from impressed. Crashes in everything has just become expected. Even apples own built in apps like itunes are slow, slow, slow and crash. The new music app can't swipe to delete when itunes match is turned on and never resumes music correctly. Can't airplay video to apple tv from YouTube's app. Map app doesn't display directions when offline. Ah, on and on and on...

I've turned off all diagnostics, location services, spotlight search and information center services with only very minor improvements.

Hopefully all this will be worked out in update of ios 6. But if not we need an easy way to get back to ios 5 from apple.

I've gone from thinking the ipod touch is the greatest thing ever to feeling like these devices have a very short lifespan and not so great. Definetly will impact my future purchases.

@Ninijhetto

You need to put the device into DFU mode, it will remove all of your data, but your device will be usable.

Put the device in DFU mode:

1. Connect the device to iTunes

2. Hold both the power button and the home button down simultaneously

3. After 10 seconds, release the power button but leave the home button pressed

4. iTunes should then recognize that the device has entered DFU mode and ask to restore.

That should do the job.

It doesn't even connect to iTunes. My computer reads it, but iTunes doesn't. I went to an Apple store and said because my warranty is done, they can replace it for $100. Problem is, I HAVE TOO MUCH SENSITIVE INFORMATION IN MY NOTES APP! None of it can be redone. Wish iTunes had sections for Notes and Photos. My raps, passwords, product keys, registration numbers, ideas, theories, lists, EVERYTHING!

It's connected now and goes off and comes back "on" every several (5-15) minutes. I was told it was the processor. Is it possible to renew my warranty so they can fix it physically, if that's the problem?

Ok, if you need that vital information off, you might be able to do something before you put it into DFU mode or wipe it clean.

First, did you have any kind of backup? Via iTunes, iCloud, or any e-mail accounts?

I hope so, if not, there may only be one way to save your data if it is still in existence. There is a free third-party program that you can download from the Internet somewhere called "iFunBox". I do not remember where it is, but if you Google "iFunBox iPod download" or something similar you should be able to find it. Once downloaded, install and run it and plug the device into the computer. With iFunBox you should be able to open up your device and go deep into the apps files and view and export data from it. You can then go into the apps that contain the information and search around for your information, probably within files mixed with code. If you have shallow knowledge about technical/computer things, then at least find the app(s) that you know contain your information that you want saved, and copy their contained folders out onto your desktop or somewhere on your computer's hard drive where you can find them, and I might be able to help you further.

If you have no backup, and iFunBox or similar programs cannot find any apps or contents on your device, then you may have lost it all. Keep in mind though, that iTunes usually by default backs up devices automatically when it syncs them.

You can get back to me if you have any questions or if something doesn't work out.

I hope this information helps you recover your important data.

I have an iPod 4g 32 GB running iOS 4.3.5. I've never bothered updating because of the crashing issues and whatnot. Today I tried to download a new app and got a message that I need at least iOS 5, so now I'm considering the update. Is it even worth it? From browsing the forums for a while now it seems there are more problems than not, and having things crash and lag constantly isn't worth being able to possibly play a new game.

I use my iPod almost everyday, so turning it into a brick or something that barely works would be a shame.

Eibbor82,

iOS 5 is not new, and it worked fine for 4th generation iPod Touchs. It is iOS 6 that just came out and has proved to be very problematic and buggy for almost every iPod Touch 4th Generation user.

If your device works fine, and your happy with it, I would recommend holding off on updating until Apple comes out with a new version to fix these problems, if they ever do.

Apps will more than likely pass you by and desert your iOS version. So I suggest that you don't update your apps anymore either, that is if they allow you to update them.

But it is your decision if you would like to "risk" updating to iOS 6.

Here is a list of the possible bugs you might encounter with iOS 6.

I hope you find this helpful.

Sincerely,

iOS 6 in general is smoother than iOS 5, but not on the 4th Generation iPod Touch, because it can't handle iOS6 as well.

FYI if you update your device at all it will be to the latest version, you cannot upgrade to just any version you want unfortunately.

The reason I advised not to update your apps is only if you decide not to update your iOS version. If you stay in iOS 4 but you update some apps, they may ont work properly. Because when they bring out updates for their apps, it will will most likely be to accommodate the new iOS 6, and in the process they stop supporting older iOS versions. That is usually the case. If it is, you may not be able to use those apps unless you update to iOS 6. However I am not sure if they allow you to update the app if it doesn't support your iOS version, so it may be ok there, but I don't know.

If you do update to iOS 6, you will want to update your apps.

Does that answer your question all right?
