No 3G or EDGE signal after upgrading to iOS 6

Long story short I had my carrier replace my SIM after Apple switched out the phone and that didn't work. The new SIM worked like a charm.

As much as I appreciate the suggestions on how to fix this, is there anyone with information on when Apple is going to fix this for us? Please tell me I haven't spent good money for a high end product only to find out I have to start hacking to make something as essential and elementary as 3G work! It's starting to feel like a Microsoft customer experience...

Worked for me ! I'm so happy :-) Seems that the iOS6 installment, somehow have modified the Cellular Data Network settings, the APN more exactly have been changed. Now, following your information to reach the Cellular Data Network I've seen that the APN was wrong and after correcting it... it works just fine :-)

You do not want to know what trouble you would have when being on Android and their spread of hardware.. so unless there is a hardware defect, the above should work if you follow the steps.. and for most people it went just fine.

Oh.. not bashing Android.. using Nexus 7 for portability 😝

Eureka, it works! Thanks to Mada's advice on a different thread I had posted. She found out that the APN settings had changed during the upgrade. After setting those back to the original ones 3G internet works again.

.. good for you.. but you could have seen that I mentioned it as well.. resetting the Cellular data will force the phone to grab the correct settings from your carrier.. but hey, happy you have 3G again..

now you can join us all to hate the battery life.. miss the street view app and wonder why the heck YouTube has been removed.. forcing us to download the google version of it 😁

actually resetting cellular data should have done the trick, but it did not. I had to do it manually. In any case you were right, so kudo's for that!

Yes.. battery life blows.. what would have left me with 30% at the end of a regular day, now leaves me with around 10% .. that blows.. so I am looking at a Mophie as I do not give a rats *** about thinest phone and what not 🙂

Tried it Mada's way too but no result. Maybe your restore to 5 and the baseband fix did the trick after all. I'm going to go back to ios 5 tomorrow and will stick with that for a while as I don't see apple taking this and many other bugs very seriously. I guess the accountants have finally taken over at Apple, introducing a product that's still full of bugs and then applying some good old communist style problem solving techniques (i.e. just ignore it and wait until everyone forgets about it).

So yes, still grumpy!

Hey Pete, looks like we reside in the same country. For me the trick was to change live.vodafone.com to office.vodafone.nl

For the rest I haven't encountered bugs in iOS 6 yet - running it for about 4 hours now :-D

i upgraded my iphone 4 three days ago to ios 6 but now i cannot get my telstra signal it only ever says SOS only or searching cannot get it to work and is really annoying not to mention that before that my cable reciever bit no longer works so i cannot sync!

For those who still hanging on problem.

Access www.unlockit.co.nz from iPhone (over WiFi or E, if its posible).

Then choose Create APN, and then select your country and operator. It will install a profile on your phone, changing APN settings.

After this, restart phone.

For me this not solved, but make my 3G less flawless.

I got all excited then.. but that hasn't resolved my 3G issue. Onwards and upwards.. Hope it works for some of you! xx

Ok folks, most of you have probably already fixed this issue - thought I'd post just in case.

Spoken to Apple and this has just worked for me.

Plug phone into PC etc.

open itunes and back up phone.

Find your version of the following path...

/Users/rebeccacatterall/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

delete the '.ipsw' file

Restore your phone but choose new settings when that option comes up - instead of going for the restore from back up options.

My 3G now works. 🙂

Although admittedly.... I now have to see if it works after I restore my back up... it should though... *meh.

Will let you know if there are any further problems.. Good luck everyone!

Becky, I hope you haven't restored yet... if you haven't maybe you should document all your 3G network settings like APN etc before restoring.
