Problem: I'm not getting Facebook notifications

Hi

This is my first post on this forum.

I was waiting for yesterdays OS X Mountain Lion udpate, so I could finally get Facebook notifications delivered to the Notification Center in OS X. Unfortunately, I'm not receiving any of them after the 10.8.2 update. Could anyone help me with this?

I suspect that the problem may be connected with the OS X Facebook Developer Preview I've installed a couple of weeks before. Wanted to test it. The sharing to Facebook option in various applications was working fine. I was also able to post to Facebook straight from the Notification Center, but there were no notifications. I thought that it was normal, as probably the notifications would be enabled once the whole system was updated.

So I've downloaded and installed the 10.8.2 update via Mac App Store. Everything went fine, but the are still no FB notifications. I thought that maybe the problem was because of the Facebook developer preview I installed before. I've searched the web to find a way to uninstall it and I've managed to do that (using CleanMyMac). When I removed the preview I got rid of Facebook from the System Preferences (I couldn't re-add an account), but the account was still enabled as I was able to post from Notification Center and I had the Facebook friends list in the Address Book. So I decided to download the OS X 10.8.2 Combo update and istall it. After I've restarted my Mac I had all the Facebook settings back in the System Preferences, but still I'm not getting any notifications.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

I have an iMac mid-2007. Notifications from other applications are working fine, there is a problem only with Facebook.

Thanks for help

Hey there thanks alot for your help.

I finally managed to get some notifications, i tested it with a friend and the result is:

- I get a notification if someone comments my post and if someone sends me a message through the chat window

- I don't get any notifcation if someone likes my post and if someone sends me a message through the messaging option

It's not perfect but still better than every before, I won't complain any more and just wait if they will improve the system later on.

Again thanks for your tip sir 😉

Ok, I've done everything user Kallampad wrote about, after that I've repaired permissions on my HDD, restarted the machine and went to the preferences to check the facebook account. Before the restart I've logged out of Facebook but after my system booted up I saw that there is already a Facebook account active there. However it wasn't identified as my name, but as my e-mail address I log with on FB, but I didn't have the option to post from Notification Center. It was quite weird and I thought that it might have been somethign which left from the developer preview. So I logged off from that account and then added it once again. I started to get notifications like micha19 - only for comments added under one, particular post. No other notifications. After a few hours I added a link on my FB account, there were some comments added but I've received no notifications. What I did in the meantime (before adding the post), was resetting SMC and PRAM. So it seems it didn't help.

I give up. Either I did something on my system wrong by addind the developer preview before 10.8.2 update or the service bringing notifications from Facebook to the OS X is malfunctioning. Maybe it will work later, maybe it won't...
