iOS 6 killed Wi-Fi Sync

Hey guys,

I updated my iOS and OS to the newest versions respectively today. As well as extremely intermittent Wi-Fi in general, my iPhone now does not sync via Wi-Fi.

All the settings are the same as they were before the update.

Sometimes the phone appears in the side bar of iTunes but just hangs at this for 5 minutes before becoming solid and ejecting in the same second.

Extremely frustrating problem. I have restarted my modem & router, my iPhones network settings and my MacBook Pro.

Any help would be great!

the only way to sync via WiFi:

- Start iTunes

- Disconnect and Reconnect the LAN-connection between your PC and Router (takes only about 3 seconds time)

- after that iTunes will find your iPad, iPhone automatically and starts the synchronization

For doing a fast LAN-disconnection/reconnection I put a small ICON "LAN-Connection ON/OFF" on my desktop.

It just works with a double-Click.

By doing this, "iTunes-WiFi-Sync" now works over the last two weeks witout any problems.

I dispute your assertion that reconnecting the connection between PC and router takes only 3 seconds ...

1) many people have wireless networks at home and therefore do not have a cable between their computer and router

2) even if there is a wired connection, the router could be at some distance from the computer

In our household we use a wireless network and the router is in the basement, several floors away.

After a few months of testing I have found that it's not iTunes, your computer or the router. It's IOS 6 .... All of my devices running IOS 6 are having problems syncing over wifi to iTunes. The other devices running IOS 5 are not having this problem.

I have to restart the IOS 6 devices for them to show up in iTunes. If I have to restart the devices (The device is in my hand and the computer is a few feet away.) I might just as well hook them up to the USB port.

That's not true in my experience David. It's happened to me under iOs 4 and 5, as well.

In my household, it comes down to the wi-fi, and when resetting it, iTunes will recognize the device again.

Best of luck to you in solving it on your end.

If Apple stated that you needed to discount wifi to make this work I would agree with you ... It's an IOS problem.

I have been battling the iTunes wifi sync issue for a long time. I think I have tried everything that there is out there on the internet. I have my Time Capsule in bridge mode behind a Verizon FIOS Actiontec router. My iMac is hardwired to the Time Capsule. While the computer is awake I am able to initiate a sync with the computer from any one of my 8 iOS devices. After the iMac falls asleep and hybernates for a while the wifi sync is hit or miss. It does not work more than it works. I will certainly try the static IP trick that is being described here and will report back. I was wondering if anyone has the same issue as I do and has figured out how to set it up.

The problem I am having is that most of the time after restarting my Mac, once I launch iTunes my iPhone 5 doesn't show up under Devices in the left column of iTunes 10.7. I prefer to charge my iPhone next to my bed using AC power, so this meant I'd have to take my cable into my office and physically reconnect it to my Mac to get the phone to show up in iTunes again. Very frustrating.

However I figured out a simple solution at least that works for me. Simply turn off wifi in my Mac's menu bar up near the clock then turn it back on again, takes 5 seconds. This forces iTunes to re-recognize the iPhone without having to physically connect it with the cable. I'm running a Charter cable modem with built in wifi, so it's perhaps an issue in that, but turning wifi off and back on gooses the wifi network and forces my iTunes to rescan the wireless network. In any case, wi-fi syncing has always worked flawlessly with my iPhone 5 (it shipped with iOS 6), SO LONG AS the phone was showing up in iTunes. This was a big help to me....at least now I don't have to get up from my computer to get wifi syncing working again.

Well its been a long time since I started this discussion, I gave up on Wi-Fi sync not much later. I have not followed the discussion and in light of what has occured, it's almost irrelevant.

I have quie literally changed nothing since I encountered this problem, but today I thought what the heck, give it another shot....

To my surprise, Wi-Fi sync now works flawlessly, I even managed to remove around 40Gb of audio and sync it back onto my iPhone 5 without any issues.

My mind is well and truly boggled.
