Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment. Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore. I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password" (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues. My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

Hi Hanahana2008:

Im from Sydney Australia. I have posted my comments a couple of times as to what i believe everyone's IOS6 Problems are related to.

This goes for all Australian Users and appears over-seas as well

See me comments below:

Hi Everyone, I might of made an additional discovery.

The iphone 4s Wifi Connectivity Issue.

There might be co-oncident solutions to downgrade firmware on Netgear devices "possible", i connected to a Belkin WAP and was OK.

I have just compared 2 Iphone 4s Phones at work, my PA's Iphone 4s and my own Iphone 4s. both IOS6 Upgrade, my PA's work OK, mine doesnt.

This is the difference i found below

Model , ICCI, Modem which are located in Settings, General, About

These seems to make the Iphone 4s's and other devices "unique". It seems they all dont have the same FIRMWARE etc based on the hardware components used to drive the Model, ICCI and Modem components on the phone.

I encourage everyone to make a comparison.

As downgrading formware on a Netgear shouldnt be a solution to this problem

What about other countless versions of WAP devices out there that we dont know which could have this problem ?

FIX:1: Apple produces somekind of software/firmware updates for the above mentioned discovery

FIX 2: Attempt to UPGRADE your firmware for what ever Wireless Access Point / Device / Router you have and hope this fixes the problem. Make a copy of your settings before doing this. This also goes for WORKPLACE situations as well and you'd have to let your IT Department know this. I work in IT myself, so understand my situation.

FIX 3: BUY a NEW Wireless Access Point / Device / Router and configure as old device and hope it works.

At this point in time, i guess a lucky forurm poster i read about the above issue has got their Iphone 4s replace already, i wish i knew the store that can do that for me

FORGET Apple Store in George St Sydney, as far as the manager is concerned his technical / engineering wireless know-how skills are limited. His answer is ..... "If it works in the Wireless in the Apple Store" then there isnt a problem with the device."

I had to walk out of the store after that comment, otherwise i would of laughed in humour.

I am having this same exact issue. When I attempt to connect to my home wifi, I put in the correct password and it tells me that it is "unable to join the network". If I attempt to put another password in, it recognizes that the password is incorrect, but again when I input the correct password it tells me that it is "unable to connect to network". I am not going to buy a new router when this clearly is an issue that Apple can resolve. It worked perfectly with 5.1.1 and all previous software then as soon as my wife and I update our software the same issue happens. We both have iPhone 4S she with Verizon me with Sprint.

FOR EVERYONE USING NETGEAR WGT624v3!!

We found the solution to the ios update problem. It has, at least, worked on my home router with two iPhone 4s models.

go to: http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/WGT624v3

WGT624v3 Download the firmware version: 2.0.21_1.0.1

I'm assuming you can also download a later firmware version for other models, but the WGT624v3 is the model I use at home.

download to your desktop and then log in to your router using your web browser and entering www.routerlogin.com

if you have never done this your username should be admin and your password is password.

then, when you are logged in, click on router upgrade

click on choose file

select the .chk file that you just downloaded from netgear.

when complete it should work.

Good luck.

If you have more trouble contact apple care because that is how apple hears about their problems, by us reporting them. We are their guinea pigs!

Here is another data point for the never ending problem.

iPhone 4S

IOS 6

Linksys E3200 Router (home)

Sees the router and appears to connect fine, but no Internet connection.

Tried every fix noted on every forum, but to no avail.

Seems to work on the wifi at work. I will check with IT tomorrow to find out what router/firmware we have.

I'll add more details as I learn more.

"I'm having the same problems as everyone else. We have the latest version of the iPad. It was working fine until iOS6 came out.

I have a Netgear router, which by some of the posts, people have said it's related to Netgear.

I have reset my router.

I have disabled security.

I have changed the channel from 'auto' to '11'.

I have reset the network settings on the iPad

I have tried turning on the http proxy and setting my router's IP in there.

I have tried just letting the ****** thing sit still nothing.

I do not have the latest firmware in the router, as people have said to go back to the previous version from the latest.

I have contacted Netgear to see if they have any suggestions.

After each of the points above, I reset my network connections on the iPad and tried to connect to the network again. It connects for about 30 seconds, then it dies. This is very frustrating. I've never had so many issues.

I've seen posts on the net for downgrading back to 5.1.1 from the ios6 beta. Does anyone know if this would work with the release version?"

-----------------------------

I did all you listed there and even invested a new router, still not work...

IOS 6 works fine on home wi-fi, but does not work for anybody on corporate network with enterprise class firewall requiring user LDAP authentication to access internet. Seems that IOS 6 safari is blocking the user level authentication popup (even though popup blocker is turned off) Because we cannot access the Internet and IOS 6 is doing some type of behind-the-scenes probing for something on the Internet and when it cannot reach that destination, it assumes that you must not need your wi-fi and shuts it down. In our case, the primary application is on corporate LAN inside the firewall, but we still cannot access it because the background Internet probing fails and then shuts down wi-fi completely. Apple has got to give users a way to turn off this Internet probing/wi-fi shutdown feature.

Hi Russell,

I work in IT for my comany as well. I have 3 WAP's, 2 which are Netgear WG102 with latest firmware *cough cough* "might try and downgrade firmware" 🙂.

The other (3) is a Belkin WAP, this one my Iphone 4s with IOS6 appears to work. All 3 WAP's eventually link up to our WAN device that gives Internet Access for which we're part of a Telstra IP Network.

I agree with your comment, Apple needs to give us something to disable what ever it is.

Failing that, if you see my last post comments and from what ive read thus far, i havent see any other possible solutions at this point in time to fix this issue.

Im placing my bet on "Modem", Model, "ICCI Variances

Here's Mine:

Version: 6.0 (10A403)

Model: MD234X

WiFi Add: 44:D8:84:63:CA:16

ICCID: 8961 0176 6423 2200 0052

Modem Firmware: 3.0.04

Here's one that works at my office : Iphone4s with IOS6

Version: 6.0 (10A403)

Model: MC603X

Wi Fi Add: 0C:74:C2:69:B9:FD

ICCID: 8961 0176 6423 0800 0041

Modem Firmware: 04.12.02

Notice the Modem Firmware is higher than mine

In addition, i just checked a second staff member as we speak and the

Modem Firmware: 04.12.02 is the SAME

Co-incidence the same FIRMWARE or if you have a higher firmware version it works ?

Please check your Modem Firmware to see if its the same as mine or lower, could be the reason why it doesnt work ?.

For what its worth: My WAP's are Netgear WG102 with latest firmware, superceded by WG103 which there are 2 optional Version 2.0 Firmwares for it. Im leaving Updating Firmware on my WAP's as a last resort, prefer to avoid knocking out my companies Wireless Access.
