I have the same problem. The Mail > iPhoto Save/import function has ceased to work. Also the solution to drag images to the iPhoto icon in the Dock is OK as long as you only operate with one library. If you have several under different topics the images are saved to the last used library so you have to Open Mail, open iPhoto change library and go back to Mail then drag to iPhoto. With an interface the programme in Mail should or could ask which library. Bingo! Much more efficient.

One of many reasons that multiple libraries are not recommended (and generally not useful nor needed) - and note that the subject feature which is currently broken did exactly what dragging photos to the icon in the dock does - nothing more or nothing less -

In short

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.

Not recommended by who? Clearly Apple think it's a good idea otherwise whyadd the feature in the first place? And I assume you are speaking for yourself when you say are generally not useful and not needed. Personally, I find them absolutely essential and a vital part of my work and personal photo archive.

I take your point on the dragging images to the icon, but I was moving the concept a bit further by implying an improvement to offer a choice of libraries within the save/import function of Mail. What's frustrating is to have an option, use it regularly each day and then bang, it's gone!

I will follow up on Old Toad's comment.
