ipod displays connect to itunes after update

i tried to update my ipod touch 4th gen today and it now shows the connect to itunes, and when i connect it too the itunes store it says restore req then i get another message saying it couldnt connect???? any suggestions ??

iPod touch, iOS 5.1.1

- Try a reset. Nothing is lost

Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reboot the computer

- What is the exact wording of the error message.
