Apple Maps are absolutely horrible

I think this is the worst Apple app I have ever seen. In just one day I've found:

  • The maps (I'm in Ohio) are poorly rendered
  • There are many misspellings - just in my city
  • The gridwork while the maps are loading is annoying
  • Most businesses that used to be listed are missing. Just blank spots on blank-looking roads. The maps, even in business districts, look like wastelands.
  • Routes - First you have to "search" for a destination, then click the Route arrow. But then for the Start window, you are restricted to just "Current Location"!!!!
    • There is no way to put in bookmarks, recents, or contacts in the Start window! If you don't want "current location" you have to manually type an address in. UNACCEPTABLE!! This is definitely a bug.
    • For that matter, once you have a route page with Start and End, there is no way to access a list of contacts, bookmarks, or recents for EITHER the Start or End window!
  • Today I tried to load a route, and a bar came up saying "routing apps" and then showed me a screen of routing apps and reviews !?
  • 3D is a joke. "Flyover" only works in giant cities, and even then I see a blank grid for at least a minute before it finally renders.

Is there any way to keep the ios 6 update but go back to the great Google Maps??

hey all.

to all the users which are complaining about the new apple maps app i can only say that when google first introduced its maps it had the same problems but no one cared back then, now when Apple makes an map app everyone suddenly crares and starts bagging out Apple. making an mapping app is hard and takes a lot of time, it is fairly new for apple and it will get better with the help of all the users by reporting the problem when you see one. Yes sure the problem will take abit of time to be fixed but it will be Apple always fix their problems. Plus there are more great features in the iOS 6 why only bag the mapps app.

Yeah true. However Google was not giving Apple more than the basic Google maps features, on the other hand all Android phones have the ectra features, that is one of the reasons apple stoped using google map. it takes time to make a really good Map app, and users feedback is one of the best and quickest ways to improve the App, that is why it everyone needs to report the problem. in my case i have not had any problems so far in Australia.

Heya guys, I asked my own question but no replies. Apple have said that the more people who use Apple Maps the better it will get, but how exactly will that work?

In my area there are many coffee shops and pubs and only about 10% show up. So what is the method for getting this data into Apple Maps?

Part of my thinks we should not be doing this for Apple as they should really have made it more finished before launching, I'm sure Apple users wouldn't mind pittig up with basic google maps for another year. At the end of the day we don't really know how much Google were messing Apple around for them to say 'ok let's do our own maps'.

It is an amazing ambitious approach and it was never going to be easy. Yes I'm annoyed with Apple for forcing me to take this upgrade and therefor nerf my maps (which I use daily), however if I can help by adding buisneses in my area then I will.

So yeah, does anyone know how this is done?

The most disturbing aspects of Mapplegate are the numerous misspellings and dislocated labels. It looks as if illiterate kids from developing countries had done all the typing. Some places are so horribly misspelled that they have nothing to do with the original name any more.

I live in Hong Kong and Apple even managed to put its own Apple store in the wrong place - I read somewhere that this even happened in the US. The location dependant reminder doesn't work any more because contrary to google maps, ios maps doesn't find my addresses - neither home nor work. It used to work perfectly.

No subway exits are displayed any more. At my workplace a movie theatre is shown, but it closed six years ago...

I have reported all these errors, but given that even in the US there are so many mistakes, it will take years until Apple fixes all the mistakes outside the US...

I'm beginning to see the funny side of it all and after some amusing excursions in ios maps, I have gladly installed the shortcut to the browser version of google maps...

I've never blogged before. I just had to sign up for a username so I can express my anger about this horrible iOS. I've had every iPhone since the beginning and I'm a die hard Apple fan. I have iPad, MB Air, etc.

I'm ready to trash my iPhone for and Android because the Apple maps suck so bad. It made me realize what was really great about traveling and the iPhone was Google maps. The Apple maps suck in so many different aspects. Only the turn by turn is useful and pretty good. The database and traffic portion *****.

I would gladly revert back to version 5.1.1 if that's possible....is it?
