iOS 6 Bluetooth problems

So I have an iPhone 4S and IPad 2. I have updated them both to iOS 6 and am having Bluetooth problems on both devices... It connects and plays for about a minute and for some odd reason it cuts out every couple seconds/minutes. I have to keep pausing or skipping tracks in order for the music to play comfortably again. This happens to me on BOTH devices and also happens on my buddies iPhone 4S as well.

I never had any of these problems in iOS 5... So does anyone know if it could be a bug or how I can fix it?

I too am having a problem with bluetooth playback on iOS6. Although most functions work fine, it appears that rather than interpreting > 1x speed as "fast playback", it believes that Podcast and other apps are fast forwarding and it tries its best to stop that and get things playing at a normal speed.

Will this be fixed in the next iOS6 update? My system worked perfectly fine on iOS5

Since this (and similar threads) have been active for a long time, it is obvious that Apple doesn't give a **** about existing customers. They HAVE to sell as much as they can before the word gets out like a F**T in a small room. Buy Samsung!

Yeah I think my next phone will be a Samsung for sure...

Well, not sure if the recent 6.0.2 has addressed our Bluetooth issue(s) noted in this thread (according to the instructions it was intended to fix a WiFi issue), but it was noted on 9to5Mac website a couple of days ago that the 4th beta of 6.1 has been released to developers. Maybe we can hope to get this ongoing (and ignored) problem solved with Bluetooth (and not just pile on features that ignore the inherent problems)

BTW, after working with 6.0.1 for awhile now, I notice that my iPhone 5 fails to pair with my 2012 Optima Hybrid about 25% of the time, so it's slightly better than with 6.0 on my iPhone 4 was. Havnen't tried Bluetooth streaming or anything ambitious...just want the phone to consistently pair with the car!

I had the same problem with Sony Dock Station(RDP-X60IP) but have found how to make it work.

What you need to do is hold the Bluetooth button on the Dock Station until you Hera double beep then release the button. And then you turn on the Bluetooth on the iPhone or iPad, it will show Sony Dock Station so you will be able to pair them. Once you pair them, iOS6 will remember and will be able to detect it next time when you turn Bluetooth on the device on.

I guess all Bluetooth device may need to do the same thing. You may find the music streaming is not very smooth as before but at least you can play it.

My family has a 2012 Toyota Highlander w/JBL stereo that utilizes bluetooth for handsfree calling and playing music, much like what many other vehicles have these days. So this might be of some insight to some. The issue described within this thread has been helpful to me, not only as confirmation that it's not only a problem for me, but that it's not limited to Toyota or JBL as it seems.

The specific issue I'm addressing here is: after you power off your iPhone running iOS 6.0.1 the pairing will no longer connect between the phone and car stereo. The iPhone w/iOS6.0.1 shows the device, but won't connect when the car is on. Only way around this that I found was to delete the stored pairing and start over, trying not to power off the iPhone to avoid a repeat of the issue. So with this issue, being frustrated about it, I started with JBL stereo company and was directed to Toyota factory head unit support.

I contacted Toyota support yesterday to try and diagnose further into if they are aware of this bluetooth issue and if they have a firmware update in the works (i was hoping). They acknowledged the issue as known, and also noted that they have tested iOS 6.1 (not released yet as 6.0.2 was just released) and as far as Toyota knows, this update is to include a bluetooth fix which effects Toyota users. Toyota did not mention anything about other car manufactures, or when Apple would release information about this or a fix or iOS 6.1 update. I'm assuming Toyota can only act in behalf of themselves when saying things like this, so I hope this is understood.

So I'm just trying to relay information that I was told on the phone by calling this Toyota support number - 18003314331

If you Toyota owners question the validity of this, call and ask yourself. I just got tired of scouring the forums for an answer and I will wait for Apple to release an update at this point, whenever that happens.

Cheers!

the latest version of iOS 5 for iPhone improves WIFI but has no effect on BT unfortunately. I do not understand how Apple could change the bluetooth on iPhone 5 without taking into account that installed on the iPhone 4 which was functioning correctly.

I would point out to a lot of people on this thread that BT DID NOT function correctly under iOS 4 either, the problems were merely more limited to a smaller (and clearly less visible) subset of users. Neither my 3GS (which was shipped with version 3) worked perfectly with my old Nokia BT car kit until the day I upgraded to iOS 4. My newer 4S does the same as my 3GS now does. I had actually hoped iOS 5 would have fixed THAT problem!!!

I've complained any number of times via feedback on this site and never had a response. The one time I spoke to a "genius" I was told that it was because Apple had updated their device profiles and that I would have to get Nokia to update the car kit itself, the fact that it is a model too old to be updated didn't seem to make any difference to them and they weren't even willing to register my problem as a "bug" despite the fact that I even presented them with photos of my sparkly new work-provided Blackberry AND a Samsung/Windows phone working with it properly.

It is just unfortunate that my BT usage is only a small factor of my having an iPhone over the other models otherwise I'd have never got the 4S. What is a factor though is that I switched to Apple products after years of believing they were over-hyped and overhyped when I discovered they really did "just work" however more recently that's becoming the exception rather than the rule.

I had the same fault with iOS 5 something, it was with my iPhone 4, then it was updated and worked fine, then Apple updated again and again utterly broke the bluetooth.

It's just obvious that Apple is utterly obsessed with having it's own bluetooth stack standards as much as possible as it is obsessed with having it's own standards for everything else. Hence why no other smartphone OS has the bluetooth issues.

Apple is ALWAY'S right, every car manufactuere is WRONG in the eye's of Apple. Personally I find them incompetent because they fix something, then break it, then fix it, then break it. If they were a worthy tech company they would fully test the software and wouldn't break functionality every other software release, it's even worst when you consider iOS is actually made entirely by the hands of Apple staff in America and not made in China.

But we will look forward to iOS 6.1 I guess?

Exciting news!!! I was one of the original posters a similar thread when I bought my iPhone 5 on day 1 and could no longer use (and still can't) the phone in any of my work cars (Holden Commodores (GM) in Australia). I had pretty much given up. I just bought a new Subaru XV with sat nav. I didn't even try pairing the phone when testing the car because I thought no point. Well guess what.... I got it home .... iPhone 5 loves Subaru XV. It works perfectly. I guess this goes to show its not the phone. Build date of the car is Sept 2012 software version of the sat nav was dated April 2012 which is pre iPhone 5 launch so no excuses there.... There might be a clue here to help other car manufacturers get it right. Hail the iPhone!
