Q: ios 6 no internet on 3G

I've just upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and now internet isn't working on 3G anymore. 3G is switched on and the network strength shows 4 bars.

For the record, internet works as soon as wifi is switched on and connected.

(oddly enough, it shows iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS6 whereas I've selected iPhone 4S, iOS 6 as Product when posting this message...)

i've tried switching off and on cellular network, 3g and resetting mobile data network settings - didn't help

i've also tried restoring iOS 6 using iTunes to factory defaults and then restore a backup - didn't help

I too am having this issue, but my 3G/4G was working fine up until around noon today and I have tried all of those things as well, to no avail.

I upgraded to iOS 6 and it was working just fine for several days. (I'm a developer and have had access to the final version since it was available).

I'm not sure why today it just suddenly stopped working.

This is distressing me greatly as I don't have access to wifi during the day and this makes my phone useless for little else except making calls.

I'm just hoping to see a 6.0.1 within the next couple of hours to fix this a a few other issues which I've read on the forum...

I have the same issue! Upgraded to ios 6 yesterday, and my Internet works with wifi but not without wifi. Can't find any other people with this issue, I'm planning to take my iPhone to apple tomorrow. Any luck with yours?

Jen, I think that there are quite a few people with this issue and so far all attempts did not resolve the problem. If Apple doesn't post a fix by tomorrow I'll bring my phone in as well. I'm not sure if it is an iOS issue or if the upgrade has corrupted the baseband firmware or something like that.

One thing is sure, 3G internet stopped working after upgrading to iOS 6. It worked like a charm on iOS 5.1.1.

I had the same exact problem after upgrading to IO 6 on my iPhone 4S, and I think I figured out a fix!

    Go to:

Settings > General > Cellular > Roaming > Data Roaming ON

It looks like after the upgrade it thinks I'm roaming and restricted data over 3G. Not sure if this will impact my phone bill (theoretically it shouldn't, since I'm not in roam), but we'll see.

    Hope this helps!

tried that as well ryguy but no luck.

i even tried downgrading to 5.1.1 via iTunes (3G internet worked again) and then upgrade again to 6 via iTunes, but again no luck. I'm back on 5.1.1 until there's a real fix for this.

This may sound strange but have you tried using it outside of your house? I went to college today and 3G worked. But it won't work at my house which is strange. Can't be to do with my house because it always worked before. I think I'll take mine to apple next Saturday as it will be very busy with all the iPhone 5's tomorrow. I'll update you with news :)

Ryguy76, tried that and it won't work either, thanks though :)

I went to the Apple store yesterday and they confirmed my diagnosis.  They then replaced my iPhone after backing it up to iCloud.  Unfortunately it was a 5.1.1 phone so it tried to download the full iOS6 upgrade which was going to take 3 hours.  Luckily I had my MacBook Air, and I upgraded it and restored it from that.  45 minutes later, and guess what?  It had the same issue.  No 3G or Edge.

They hadn't a clue what to do.

Flabbergasted I went to the AT&T dealer also in the mall, and I explained it to them, and forced them to switch out my SIM card.  I'm not sure why, but once activated, this fixed my issue.  Took me several hours to get to this point but at least it's fixed and working now.

I have the same issue on an iPhone 4S. Toggling data roaming made it work, albeit just temporarily. Sometimes I've had to disable cellular data completely then toggle data roaming and it would suddenly work again then stop working again.

The issued me a new SIM card free of charge and transferred over my subscriber data to the new one.

Has anyone tried this problem in different areas? My 3G only seems to not work in the house. I phoned apple and they suggested I ring orange because they think it may be a problem with the signal due to ios 6 update. I plan to phone orange tomorrow, and apple gave me the number to ring back if nothing was sorted

How do you downgrade to 5.1.1?
