ios 6 no internet on 3G

I've just upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and now internet isn't working on 3G anymore. 3G is switched on and the network strength shows 4 bars.

For the record, internet works as soon as wifi is switched on and connected.

(oddly enough, it shows iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS6 whereas I've selected iPhone 4S, iOS 6 as Product when posting this message...)

My carrier is Vodafone, and I've seen different threads about the same issue where people report different carriers. The only common factor so far is that all people with 3G internet issues is that they've upgraded to iOS 6.

My 2 cents: the upgrade has done something flaky to the baseband firmware which may or may not give problems depending on maybe different conditions of which carrier could be one.

I am from Romania and my carrier is Vodafone.

I have an iphone 4S and I've upgrade this morning to iOS 6 after that ... surprise ... no internet connection !!!

In my opinion is a bug of the iOS 6 ! 😢

If you work at Apple I kindly suggest you to tell to your manager about this issue because will affect millions of devices and this means millions of unhappy Apple users !

Regards,

M

I would be surprised if it's not a bug Mada. I have a suspect that the iOS 6 upgrade touches the baseband code, and probably "at random" corrupts it as in our cases.

What supports my suspect is that iTunes offered me to update the baseband code after downgrading my phone back to 5.1.1

Hopefully all the other unhappy users make themselves heard so that this issue will be resolved quickly.

I've confirmed as well that the Data Roaming toggle only works temporarily for me. Internet over 3G will work for a bit, but then just hang there and timeout. I can then toggle to the next option (OFF or ON) and it magically starts working again, but eventually will just fail again. Very frustrating.

I'm on Verizon. Full signal. I never had issues of data over 3G failing in these coverage areas before the IO 6 upgrade.

How did everyone else do the update? Was it OTA or through iTunes? I did mine through iTunes, and I'm curious if we can figure out if we all did something similar when we upgraded.

Problem solved :-) My 3G is up and running :-)

I found that the iOS6 installment somehow changed the existing Cellular Data Network settings of the APN (the 1st one).

For fixing this issue follow the path:

Settings > General > Cellular > switch Cellular Data from ON to OFF in order to enable the Cellular Data Network > click on Cellular Data Network and here I think that based on the country/ contract/ carrier/ you have 3 options:

1. you know your APN settings and you modify them, turn the Cellular Data back to ON, switch off your and after that switch on phone and it works (my case :-)

2. click on Reset Setting (you have to scroll down), turn the Cellular Data back to ON, switch off and after that switch on your phone and it works

3. you dont know your settings and therefore you call your carrier customer care and they will help you (Vodafone, Orange, ...)

Good luck and if it works please let me know and spread the word,

M

I had the same issue while in China using China Unicom. I verified it was not a sim issue or carrier issue by switching my sim chip with someone else. Their sim did not work either in my phone. My sim worked in their phone.

Next, I did as Mada1981 recommended and turned off the data then I went to Settings-->General-->Reset. Then I executed the "Reset Network Settings". It rebooted my phone and now 3G works fine.

I now need to go back and register my Wifi networks.
