ios 6 no internet on 3G

I've just upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and now internet isn't working on 3G anymore. 3G is switched on and the network strength shows 4 bars.

For the record, internet works as soon as wifi is switched on and connected.

(oddly enough, it shows iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS6 whereas I've selected iPhone 4S, iOS 6 as Product when posting this message...)

Figured it out. I'm on Straight Talk, and the APN Settings got locked out by IOS 6. In order to change the settings, you need to have AT&T unlock your iphone. They are slow, about a week, to take care of this but it's free from them as long as you're out of contract. Follow the AT&T and Apple Itunes instructions to unlock the phone.

THEN since Straight Talk and AT&T use the same type of chip the phone still appears to be locked because the menu (Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network) does not show up. You need to get yourself a T-Mobile chip, borrow or buy online from T-Mobile for .99cents.

THEN follow the instructions below from: http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/

Make sure you have the unlockit.co.nz Straighttalk profile installed first ( Go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz from your iPhone and follow your Nose) as this is the only way to set the Data Proxy needed (or some websites won’t work I have been told)

1. Close all opened apps

2. Place T-Mobile sim in iPhone

3. Open Settings, General, Cellular, Data Network

4. When Data Network Appears ( the screen will move back to Cellular)

5. Swap T-Mobile Sim to Straight Talk Sim

6. Wait for the “NO SIM” splash to disappear

7. Press Cellular again and Data Network should still be there.

8. Go to Settings and make sure the information below is entered.

9. Press Cellular to Exit.

10. A restart of the iPhone may be needed. ( Hold down Top Button, slide to Power off and then start again with Top Button)

The Above Instructions worked perfectly for me and my IPhone 4S, and 4.

Thank you!!!

The issue persist. It is an irritable issue of switching on and off the cellular data every time you need to perform web activity.

I am on Reliance India 3G and they Di not have any issue. I used the chip in a another phone and confirmed. iOS 6 needs a worthy upgrade soon. This is too annoying.

Apple, kindly look into this fast. iPad is my main computing device and its turning out to be an embarrassment in front of clients whom I pitch your devices. Remember this issue never happened with 5.1.1

Kindly let us know how to go back to 5.1.1 OTA as I do not have a PC or Mac to use. Thanks!

Same with me, I got the iPhone 5, the thing is always dropping off 3G in an area I know has good data coverage

I took it back to Carphone warehouse and they told me straight away that it was a known problem with iOS6

Rumour is that 6.0.1 will be out very soon and it will fix the 3G issues but overall it's a very poor show from Apple and they need to get things right first time, shipping when something isn't right is a poor indicator for the future of Apple, rushing it out of the door isn't a good legacy for Job's

Not impressed and really takes the shine off the iPhone 5 purchase

UPDATE -- I've updated to iOS 6.0.1 and the problem is about 50% fixed. I have gotten some data over 3G, not any kind of consistency. With full 3G signal bars showing, sometimes I get data, other times I don't with no rhyme or reason as to why. I've rebooted after update, reset my network connection and visited the store where I purchased it to see if there was something they could do. They said all I could do was call Apple & see if they would swap for a different phone. No guarantee they would do that or if it would even be a solution. The replacement could have the same issue.

6.0.1 didn't fix it for me, Carphone Warehouse have now provided me another new iPhone 5, shocked that the problem is the same with the brand new phone

It's going back tomorrow and I want a full refund, I am not the only person have very poor internet performance with an iPhone 5 on Vodafone UK network

My wife's iPhone 4S and my Dad's iPhone 4S both work fine on iOS 6 so it's simply the new handset that is to blame here

Apple I love your products but this should not have shipped it is not good enough, total waste of time and effort and I cannot understand why you shipped this when it wasn't ready ...

I think it is an ios 6 problem but more complex than we think.

I installed ios 6 on my iPhone 4S when it got out and got this problem. Lasted only for a day though.

Got the iPhone 5 and upgraded to ios 6.0.1 when it got out. Then started to have this problem again, but even more often.

After every startup of the iphone I get the 3G logo, yet no internet connection.

Toggling off/on data roaming 'fixes' this (until the next reboot).

I am on Vodafone The Netherlands and had my brand new nano sim replaced. Did not solve the problem.

I am now having the iPhone 5 replaced after a call to Apple Support (The Netherlands).

I will then have replaced both sim and phone. If problem persist, I think it is an ios 6 problem.

I think it is a bug.

Whatever it is, I don't think that it's only an IOS issue. It seems that some providers reset the APN settings to a default setting after OS updates etcetera.

In any case, I had the same issue on a new iphone 5 after upgrading to IOS 6.0.2. Now I know that 3G works again after setting back the 3 APN urls to the known good ones.

Tip: check with your mobile phone provider what APN settings you should use with your subscription.

E.g. office.vodafone.nl instead of default live.vodafone.com

Apple, how is this even possible???

First of all, im one of the hardcore loyal Apple fan boys, but im rapidly building up a hate towards Iphone now due to a very arrogant behaviour from Apple.

"This forum is not monitored by Apple"

Who really believes that Apple creates a forum and never check it?

I fully understand they cant interfere with every issue in here, but with major issues like people arent able to use their phones, and the reply from Apple care is, nothing we can do!

My Iphone 5 is one month old, it worked great on 6.01, but now, one week after up to 6.02 internet out of the blue doesnt work at all on 3G, ive tried everything, resetting, hard reset, network reset, editing Vpn, nothing helps.

So basically i now have a simple mobilephone with wifi only.

In case you wondered, there are actually people using Iphones professionally at work, this means i no longer have the ability to read or write mails outside home/office, and you cannot do anything about it???

Considering the past year flops in iphone releases, software, ratling buttons interiors etc, i think it would be apropriate for Apple to make an official statement about certain issues, like, we are very sorry the problems youre experiencing, but we can assure you we are currentrly working on a fix for this.

Thinking doing this will make Apples reputation worse is the biggest mistake u can make now, imo, humblenes is the key here.

Hope this problem is solved asap, otherwise i wilø be FORCED to buy another brand, even if i dont like it.
