SOME SOLUTIONS TO HELP WITH CRASHING:

-clear out multitasking bar when not using apps. Try to keep up to a full page at a time.

-reboot your iPod touch occasionally to refresh system. This will clear out kinks.

-stop services you don't need. If there are apps you have with notifications enabled, such as games like jenga or checkers, or built-in apps you don't use, stop some of the notification services. Do that with other features also that you don't need.

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem, blank screen when I went to the AppStore and eventually it crashed. I updated to iOS 6 on both my iPad (gen 3 wifi+3g) and my iPhone 4 at the same time. iPad went fine, but my iPhone needed a restore with iTunes. I had a bad internet connection where I was, so eventually I had to download the specific ipsw file and restore manually. Once the iPhone was up and running I ... pressed 'Update All' and ever since 3/4 of all my apps was rendered inusable, and AppStore was crashing. Even update from iTunes would not sync.

Solution

From iTunes I updated all my apps, and since I never go this route it took some time. Once iTunes told me that all my apps was up-to-date, i started deleting all the apps that was non-responsive or busy updating on my iPhone. Once I did that and reconnected my iPhone to iTunes it automatically synched all the apps.

While I writing this, it is busy updating the rest, but the first number of apps has been synched, and I have tried them and they work. I don't know if the AppStore will work after this, but at least all my apps will work and they will be up-to-date.

I have just done a factory reset and base install of IOS6, and first time i logged into app store and supprise supprise its crashing also. Also updated my wifes Ipod before i was aware of this issue and its doing the same thing. There are only base apps on both devices, so it cannot being a old app causing this issue.

Microsoft has the Blue screan of death, looks like apple has the black screen or reset lol

I've never had so many problems with my ios devices and macs as I've had in the past couple of years. Apple's QC really seems to have went down. I've already switched back to Windows 7, which lets me get more work done and is more reliable and faster. I'm a graphics designer and while it was necessary in the past or elite to own mac is no longer the case. We have six ios devices in the house and I dread updates. My ios5 was working great, I updated to ios6 and it failed updating, had to factory restore and now I can't even access the app store without crashing.

I also own an Asus Transformer which was purchased for KB/Mouse input along with usb ports and microsd/SD card slots and it works flawlessly compared to ios. With the KB/Mouse I can RDP it to a PC and run photoshop, lightroom, dreamweaver on it and get some actual work done.

My wife hasn't touched her ipod touch since she bought a kindle fire last year and the kids' ipod touches will soon be replaced with the same or Nexus 7's. I don't have time for all these headaches and from a company who controls the hardware and software and has extremely limited configurations compared to android we deserve better.

None of these solutions are working for me. And I refuse to factory reset and spend a day re-entering all my passwords. If apple is working on fixing this I wish they could just say so.

I contacted customer support and got someone from billing answering me saying to scan the forums or I can call a pay-based customer support. That's just infuriating.

This is the core of the apple product - I really wish they would just say that they've got some unintended side effects from the upgrade and are working on a patch. That would at least calm me down and realise that someone is listening to me...

Well, I fixed mine not working. I rolled back to 5.1.1, which Apple doesn't make easy, but thanks to people smarter than them, possible. Everything is working once again, and I don't plan on "upgrading" again. By the time I'll even care about IOS 6, the battery in my touch will be shot and I won't feel like paying $70 for a new one, nor will I feel like buying a new touch like I have in the past, and will be Android only.

Now iOS 6.0.1 is finally out today I can only hope that these absolutely annoying problems (AppStore shows blank screens, Facebook app not longer usable, since today some ten minutes ago, and so on and so forth) are resolved, I'm going to do that update over night (CET). Seems that they made us playing the Microsoft game - give them a beta and let's see what happens.

Hello Everyone,

ATTENTION: If you have the appstore crashing problem, try this method which is slightly different than the regularly suggested, but has proven affective for me:

  1. If possible, close all other apps.
  2. Open the appstore.
  3. Attempt to do what generally causes the app to crash. (e.g. search for something)
  4. Before it actually does anything, hold the Home button and the Power button simultaneously.
  5. After about 10 second the device should power off and start up again.
  6. Once the device powers back up, open the appstore and see if the problem is resolved.

This method does not erase any data.

This method may work on other similar issues.

I hope this helps.

s.hff,

For your information, the iOS 6.0.1 update is a small one and does not take long. It took about 10 minutes for me via my iPod Touch directly. Don't forget to backup your device.

If you or anyone else find that this update has fixed problems introduced by iOS6, please post the details here if possible:

OK, update done. (Took a bit longer than ten minutes, especially on my iPhone 4, lots of apps on it.)

So far at least some problems seem to be solved. FB is running again (however - might be that my problems yesterday werde caused by FB on the server side), searching for apps in AppStore on iPad does work again, but only if there is an iPad app corresponding to the search term. If there isn't switching to "iPhone apps" returns the no-results-message either, although there actually *are* results.

Can't tell you something about stability right now, obviously. Keep you posted.
